  1. 16. Micro-mechanical mechanisms for deformation in polymer-material structures

    Författare :Jessica Strömbro; Peter Gudmundson; Per Gradin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Length-scale effects; Strain gradient; Moisture change; Humidity change; Network model; Fibre model; Mathematical model; Polymer; Micro-indentation; Particle composite; Interfacial debonding; Matrix cracking; Paper; Mechano-sorptive creep; Accelerated creep; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the focus has been on micro-mechanical mechanisms in polymer-based materials and structures. The first part of the thesis treats length-scale effects on polymer materials. Experiments have showed that the smaller the specimen, the stronger is the material. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Homogenization of some new mathematical models in lubrication theory

    Författare :Afonso Fernando Tsandzana; Peter Wall; Lars- Erik Persson; John Fabricius; Anders Holmbom; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lubrication theory; homogenization theory; Reynolds equation; cavitation; surfaces roughness; Stokes equation; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : We consider mathematical modeling of thin film flow between two rough surfaces which are in relative motion. For example such flows take place in different kinds of bearings and gears when a lubricant is used to reduce friction and wear between the surfaces. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Bifurcations and Exchange of Stability with Density Dependence in a Coinfection Model and an Age-structured Population Model

    Författare :Jonathan Andersson; Vladimir Kozlov; Uno Wennergren; Ezio Venturino; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In nature many pathogens and in particular strains of pathogens with negative effects on species coexists. This is for simplicity often ignored in many epidemiological models. It is however still of interest to get a deeper understanding how this coexistence affects the dynamics of the disease. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Stochastic model updating and model selection with application to structural dynamics

    Författare :Majid Khorsand Vakilzadeh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite element model; Bayesian model selection; Bayesian model updating; stochastic simulation; Bootstrapping; Subspace system identification; Uncertainty quantification;

    Sammanfattning : Uncertainty induced by our incomplete state of knowledge about engineering systems and their surrounding environment give rise to challenging problems in the process of building predictive models for the system behavior. One such challenge is the model selection problem, which arises due to the existence of invariably multiple candidate models with different mathematical forms to represent the system behavior, and so there is a need to assess their plausibility based on experimental data. 5. 20. Selected Problems in Financial Mathematics

    Författare :Erik Ekström; Johan Tysk; Svante Janson; Lane P. Hughston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical analysis; American options; convexity; monotonicity in the volatility; robustness; optimal stopping; parabolic equations; free boundary problems; volatility; Russian options; game options; excessive functions; superreplication; smooth fit; Matematisk analys; Mathematical analysis; Analys;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, consisting of six papers and a summary, studies the area of continuous time financial mathematics. A unifying theme for many of the problems studied is the implications of possible mis-specifications of models. Intimately connected with this question is, perhaps surprisingly, convexity properties of option prices. LÄS MER
