1. Matematiska argument i helklassdiskussioner : En studie av elevers och lärares multimodala kommunikation i matematik i åk 3-5
Sammanfattning : This study aimed at investigating and analysing the communication occurring during whole class discussions, with a specific focus on the nature of the mathematical arguments. The investigation was a qualitative case study where the communication during eight whole class discussions in grade 3-5 were analysed. LÄS MER
2. Objects and objectivity : Alternatives to mathematical realism
Sammanfattning : This dissertation is centered around a set of apparently conflicting intuitions that we may have about mathematics. On the one hand, we are inclined to believe that the theorems of mathematics are true. LÄS MER
3. Decontextualized language, logic, and algebra : the relationship between Mozambican students’ achievement in school mathematics and their language and social background
Sammanfattning : Researchers in mathematics education have always stressed the relevance of algebra in school mathematics and have produced a wide range of empirical and theoretical outcomes in relation to this field. In addition, the importance of language proficiency for success in school mathematics has been explored in a variety of different contexts, as has been the relation between students’ social class and achievement in mathematics. 4. On pressure-driven Hele-Shaw flow
Sammanfattning : The present licentiate thesis is devoted to the rigorous derivation of the equations governing thin-film flow of incompressible Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. More precisely, we consider flow in a generalized Hele-Shaw cell, which is a thin three-dimensional domain confined between two surfaces connected by cylindrical obstacles of various shapes. LÄS MER
5. Homogenization of reaction-diffusion problems with nonlinear drift in thin structures
Sammanfattning : We study the question of periodic homogenization of a variably scaled reaction-diffusion equation with non-linear drift of polynomial type. The non-linear drift was derived as hydrodynamic limit of a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) for a population of interacting particles crossing a domain with obstacle. LÄS MER
