11. Synchrotron Radiation Studies of Molecular Building Blocks for Functional Materials
Sammanfattning : The research on new materials is a primary driving force for progress in human society. One of the most significant research topic nowadays is the development of new functional materials for technological applications, like perovskite implemented in solar cells, and graphene as a representative for the new 2D materials family. 12. Conjugated Polymer-based Conductive Fibers for Smart Textile Applications
Sammanfattning : Electrically conductive or electro-active fibers are the key components of smart and interactive textiles, which could be used in medical, sports, energy, and military applications in the near future. The functionalization of high-performance textile yarns/fibers with conjugated polymers can produce conductive fibers with better electro-mechanical properties, which is difficult with commonly used spinning techniques. 13. Characterizations of as grown and functionalized epitaxial graphene grown on SiC surfaces
Sammanfattning : The superior electronic and mechanical properties of Graphene have promoted graphene to become one of the most promising candidates for next generation of electronic devices. Epitaxial growth of graphene by sublimation of Si from Silicon Carbide (SiC) substrates avoids the hazardous transfer process for large scale fabrication of graphene based electronic devices. LÄS MER
14. Stainless Steel in Biological Environments – Relation between Material Characteristics, Surface Chemistry and Toxicity
Sammanfattning : Triggered by the regulatory need of the industry to demonstrate safe use of their alloy products from an environmental and health perspective, and by the significant lack of metal release data and its correlation to material and surface characteristics for iron- and chromium-based alloys, a highly interdisciplinary in-depth research effort was undertaken to assess the relation between material/surface characteristics and toxicity with main emphasis on stainless steel alloys. This thesis focuses predominantly on studies made on AISI 316L both as massive sheet and as powder particles, but includes also results for other stainless steel grades and reference metals and metal oxides. 15. Modelling the microstructure, the mechanical response of rock material and the relationship between them
Sammanfattning : Rock material heterogeneity is one of most important intrinsic properties of geological materials. The need to quantify and model this heterogeneity is a key point for the prediction of the rock fragmentation behaviour through simulation. In this thesis both microstructure and mechanical heterogeneity are analysed. LÄS MER
