1. Numerical Investigation of Internal Combustion Engine Related Flows
Sammanfattning : Internal combustion engines has been used for more than 100 years. The use of the abundant energy supply stored as hydrocarbon fueled unprecedented economic growth. The use of hydrocarbons increased the work output of human labor significantly, thus increasing the economy and prosperity. LÄS MER
2. Creation and destruction of in-cylinder flows : Large eddy simulations of the intake and the compression strokes
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to increase engine efficiency by studying the flow structures created in an engine cylinder during the intake phase and the effect of the subsequent compression. The invention of the combustion engine has enabled three centuries of economic growth fueled by energy stored as hydrocarbons. 3. Distributed Stochastic Programming with Applications to Large-Scale Hydropower Operations
Sammanfattning : Stochastic programming is a subfield of mathematical programming concerned with optimization problems subjected to uncertainty. Many engineering problems with random elements can be accurately modeled as a stochastic program. In particular, decision problems associated with hydropower operations motivate the application of stochastic programming. LÄS MER
4. On Efficient Transmission Balancing Operation : Capturing the Normal State Frequency and Active Power Dynamics
Sammanfattning : In an electric power system, there will always be an electric balance. Nevertheless, System Operators (SOs) often uses the term imbalance. Here, the term imbalance refers to the difference between trades and real-time measurements. LÄS MER
5. Assessing the reliability of detrital zircon in Early-Earth provenance studies
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of the Early Earth and the processes that have shaped its evolution have spawned predominantly from the geochemical and isotopic signatures of a small number of zircon populations around the world. Studies of trace element distributions, Hf and O isotope systematics as well as mineral inclusion chemistry in detrital zircon are combined with U-Pb chronology in order to constrain source rock characteristics.
