  1. 21. On the Internal Sizing Mechanisms of Paper with AKD and ASA Related to Surface Chemistry, Wettability and Friction

    Författare :Rauni Seppänen; Mark Rutland; John Roberts; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Paper and board are hydrophobized (sized) to control the spreading and absorption of waterbased inks and retard the absorption and edge penetration of liquid packaging by aqueous liquids. Alkenyl ketene dimers (AKD) and alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) are synthetic sizing agents that are generally used under neutral or slightly alkaline papermaking conditions. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Tactile perception is considered an important contributor to the overall consumer experience of a product. However, what physical properties that create the specifics of tactile perception, are still not completely understood. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Tactile Perception - Role of Physical Properties

    Författare :Lisa Skedung; Mark Rutland; Katrin Danerlöv; Sören Andersson; Ann Maria Cornell; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Finger Friction; Skin Friction; Paper Friction; Friction Coefficient; Piezoelectric Force Sensor; Skin Tribology; Biotribology; Soft Tribology; Surface Roughness; Profilometry; Coated Paper; Uncoated Paper; Printing Paper; Magazine Paper; Tactile Perception; Psychophysics; Multidimensional Scaling; Magnitude Estimation; Paper Coarseness; Thermal Conductivity; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to interconnect human tactile perception with various physical properties of materials. Tactile perception necessitates contact and relative motion between the skin and the surfaces of interest. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Interactions of cellulose and model surfaces

    Författare :Johanna Stiernstedt; Mark Rutland; William Ducker; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is fundamental surface force and friction studies of silica and cellulose surfaces, performed mainly with the atomic force microscope (AFM). The normal interactions between model cellulose surfaces have been found to consist of a longer range double layer force with a short range steric interaction, the nature of which is extensively discussed. 5. 25. Novel boron compounds in lubrication

    Författare :Mamoun Taher; Mark Rutland; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Lubricants are used to control friction and reduce wear by preventing direct contact between surfaces in a relative motion. Most of the modern lubricants and lubricant additives have been designed and optimized for ferrous materials. LÄS MER
