  1. 1. New Tools for Trapping and Separation in Gas Chromatography and Dielectrophoresis : Improved Performance by Aid of Computer Simulation

    Författare :Fredrik Aldaeus; Anders Colmsjö; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas chromatography; dielectrophoresis; computer simulation; finite element method; trapping; separation; lab-on-a-chip; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Computer simulations can be useful aids for both developing new analytical methods and enhancing the performance of existing techniques. This thesis is based on studies in which computer simulations were key elements in the development of several new tools for use in gas chromatography and dielectrophoresis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. From source to the environment : Strategies for identification and determination of hydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in complex particulate matrices

    Författare :Rozanna Avagyan; Roger Westerholm; Conny Östman; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; OH-PAHs; hydroxy-PAHs; particulate matter; PM; airborne particles; combustion particles; wood combustion; suspect screening; non-target screening; high resolution mass spectrometry; HRMS; atmospheric pressure photoionization; APPI; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Adverse health effects have been linked to exposure to particulate matter, and wood combustion is considered as an important source of harmful particulate matter in the urban air and environment. Hydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a group of compounds with toxic, endocrine disrupting and carcinogenic properties. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes

    Författare :Elisabet Boija; Gunnar Johansson; Per Lundahl; Christine Lagerquist Hägglund; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Capillary electrophoresis; Detergent; Drug; Electrostatic interaction; Hydrophobic interaction; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Lignin; Lignin precursor model; Liposome; Membrane model; Octanol water partitioning; Partitioning; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Sterol; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Development of Methods for Analysis of Valuable Compounds in By-products from Agricultural and Forestry Industrial Sectors

    Författare :Mikael E Fridén; Per J R Sjöberg; Jonas Bergquist; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; industry by-products; flavonoids; triterpenes; mass spectrometry; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : A growing interest in sustainable development has made efficient utilisation of starting materials and, if they occur, by-products become increasingly important. Vast amounts of by-products are generated by the forestry and food industry. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nanosized Bilayer Disks as Model Membranes for Interaction Studies

    Författare :Anna Lundquist; Katarina Edwards; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Disk; disc; lipid bilayer; PEG-lipid; model membrane; interaction; partitioning; drug; liposome; cryo-TEM; neutron scattering; capillary electrophoresis; immobilization; biosensor; membrane protein; melittin; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : PEG-lipid stabilized bilayer disks have been found in lipid mixtures containing polyethylene glycol (PEG)-lipids where the combination of a high bending rigidity and low PEG-lipid/lipid miscibility favours disk formation. The disks are planar and circular in shape and their long-term stability is excellent. LÄS MER
