  1. 1. Fluxes and Mixing Processes in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Författare :Erik Olof Nilsson; Anna Rutgersson; Harm Jonker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Growing sea; Swell; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Mixing; Momentum flux; Wind stress; Flux attenuation; Sensor separation; Large eddy simulation; Multiresolution analysis; Coupling; Wave model; Climate model; Wave age; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric models are strongly dependent on the turbulent exchange of momentum, sensible heat and moisture (latent heat) at the surface. Oceans cover about 70% of the Earth’s surface and understanding the processes that control air-sea exchange is of great importance in order to predict weather and climate. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fluxes of Sensible and Latent Heat and Carbon Dioxide in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Författare :Erik Sahlée; Ann-Sofi Smedman; Anna Rutgersson; Sören Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Meteorology; Sensible heat flux; Latent heat flux; Carbon dioxide; Turbulent exchange; Global heat fluxes; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Oceans cover about 70% of the earth’s surface. They are the largest source of the atmospheric water vapour and act as enormous heat reservoirs. Thus in order to predict the future weather and climate it is of great importance to understand the processes governing the exchange of water vapour and heat between the ocean and atmosphere. 3. 3. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 4. 4. Wind-wave interaction effects on offshore wind energy

    Författare :Ali Al Sam; Strömningsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :wind-wave; swell; atmospheric boundary layer; marine atmospheric boundary layer; atmospheric turbulence; Large-eddy simulation; actuator line; wind sea; offshore technology; wind energy; wind turbine; aerodynamic;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the investigation of the impacts of fast moving ocean surface waves on the aerodynamics of offshore wind turbines. The impacts of non-locally generated waves (swell) on the Marine Atmospheric BoundaryLayer (MABL) and thereby on offshore wind turbine aerodynamics are studied numerically by using Large Eddy Simulations and the Actuator Line Method. 5. 5. Effects of coastal forcing on turbulence and boundary-layer structure

    Författare :Linda Ström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coastal mountains of significant elevation impose constraints for the surrounding flow. The aim of this study is to describe the modifications of the marine atmospheric boundary layer that occur offshore of the west coast of the United States. Aircraft measurements, up to 1000 km off the coast from two experiments, are used. LÄS MER
