1. Species Delimitation and Phylogenetic Relationships. A study of Silene sections Atocion and Cryptoneurae
Sammanfattning : Abstract The existence of conflicting genealogies of different genes through the evolution of species complicates the inference of phylogenetic relationships. The Multispecies Coalescent (MSC) model provides a theoretical background that account for the stochasticity in the genealogical process, thus providing systematists with a potentially objective way of testing alternative hypotheses of putative species. 2. On specification and inference in the econometrics of public procurement
Sammanfattning : In Paper [I] we use data on Swedish public procurement auctions for internal regularcleaning service contracts to provide novel empirical evidence regarding green publicprocurement (GPP) and its effect on the potential suppliers’ decision to submit a bid andtheir probability of being qualified for supplier selection. We find only a weak effect onsupplier behavior which suggests that GPP does not live up to its political expectations. LÄS MER
3. Bayesian Inference in Large Data Problems
Sammanfattning : In the last decade or so, there has been a dramatic increase in storage facilities and the possibility of processing huge amounts of data. This has made large high-quality data sets widely accessible for practitioners. This technology innovation seriously challenges traditional modeling and inference methodology. LÄS MER
4. Latent variable models for multivariate survival and count data
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers on multivariate frailty models and one paper on the use of latent class models in genetic association studies. The common theme through the four papers is the use of latent variables to capture complex dependence structures in the data. LÄS MER
5. Between open systems and closed doors : the needs and perceptions of parents of children with cognitive disabilities in educational settings
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers on multivariate frailty models and one paper on the use of latent class models in genetic association studies. The common theme through the four papers is the use of latent variables to capture complex dependence structures in the data. LÄS MER
