  1. 1. Immunological Checkpoint Blockade and TLR Stimulation for Improved Cancer Therapy

    Författare :Sara Mangsbo; Thomas Tötterman; Angelica Loskog; Rolf Kiessling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CpG ODNs; TLR-9; CTLA-4; PD-1; PD-L1; B7. H1; immunotherapy; checkpoint blockade; bladder cancer; cancer; complement; TLRs; Compstatin; properdin; C3; experimental animal model; whole blood loop system; combination therapies; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Tumour immunology; Tumörimmunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the investigation of novel immunotherapies for cancer eradication. CpG therapy was used in order to target antigen-presenting cells (APCs), facilitating antigen presentation and activation of T cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Curing Multiple Sclerosis : How to do it and how to prove it

    Författare :Joachim Burman; Jan Fagius; Angelica Loskog; Sara Mangsbo; Paulo Muraro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biomarkers; cerebrospinal fluid; cytokines; hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; immunology; magnetic resonance imaging; multiple sclerosis; neuroimmunology; neurology; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a potentially curative treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) with now more than 600 documented cases in the medical literature. Long-term remission can be achieved with this therapy, but when is it justified to claim that a patient is cured from MS? In attempt to answer this question, the outcome of the Swedish patients is described, mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect are discussed and new tools for demonstration of absence of disease have been developed. 3. 3. Antibody-based Cancer Immunotherapy : Personalization, response prediction and safety considerations

    Författare :Mohamed Eltahir; Sara Mangsbo; Patrick Micke; Gustav Ullenhag; Marit Inderberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Antibody-based therapeutics have remarkably improved the field of immuno-oncology. Multiple monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are approved for clinical use, and numerous antibodies are under clinical development. The scope of this thesis is to study the personalization of antibody-based immunotherapeutics and tools to predict their efficacy and safety. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Antibody- and Peptide-based Immunotherapies : Proof-of-concept and safety considerations

    Författare :Erika Fletcher; Sara Mangsbo; Vivianne Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immune complex; conjugat; vaccine; CD40; whole blood; cytokine release syndrome; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of cancer immunotherapy is to eradicate tumours by inducing a tumour-specific immune response. This thesis focuses on how antibodies and peptides can improve antigen presentation and the subsequent tumour-specific T cell response. Tumour recognition by the immune system can be promoted through delivery of antigen in the form of a vaccine. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Vascular targeting for enhanced cancer immunotherapy

    Författare :Maria Georganaki; Anna Dimberg; Sara Mangsbo; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Wolf Hervé Fridman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer immunotherapy; tumor vasculature; endothelial activation; IDO1; ELTD1; tertiary lymphoid organ; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Induced angiogenesis and chronic inflammation are major components of tumor immunosuppression. The scope of this thesis is to understand the role of the vasculature in anti-tumor immunity and thereby to improve cancer immunotherapy. LÄS MER
