    Sammanfattning : This dissertation presents a contribution to quantitative microwave imaging for breast tumor detection. The study made in the frame of a joint supervision Ph.D. thesis between University Paris-SUD 11 (France) and Mälardalen University (Sweden), has been conducted through two experimental microwave imaging setups, the existing 2. 2. 22. Interval cancers, positive predictive value for malignance and other early quality indicators in mammographic screening for breast cancer

    Författare :Bedrich Vitak; Ingvar Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Mammography; Breast neoplasm; Breast cancer screening; Interval breast cancer; Metastasis; Mortality; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The study was designed to evaluate early quality indicators in screening for breast cancer. lt comprised, (i) investigations of compliance, recall, referral, cancer detection, and interval cancer rates in the Östergötland screening programme of women aged 40-74 years; (ii) evaluation of the three-stage diagnostic procedure for pre-operative assessment of women with suspicious mammographic findings; (iii) comprehensive analysis of all invasive interval cancers detected; and (iv) investigation into how to reduce the number of interval cancers without a concomitant increase in false positives. 3. 23. Breast cancer screening with mammography of women 40-49 years in Sweden

    Författare :Barbro Numan Hellquist; Håkan Jonsson; Lennarth Nyström; Nea Malila; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cohort; mortality; breast cancer; mammography screening; risk factors; parity; age at first birth; socio-economic status; overdiagnosis; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background The debate regarding the lower age limit for mammography service screening is old and lively; a product in part of the lower breast cancer risk in younger ages as well as the limited data available for studies of the younger age group. Recently the idea of inviting only high risk groups has gained momentum, however high risk might not be equivalent to greater benefit from screening. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Measurement of Tumor Extent and Effects of Breast Compression in Digital Mammography and Breast Tomosynthesis

    Författare :Daniel Förnvik; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; digital mammography; breast tomosynthesis; breast compression; pressure distribution; breast cancer; circulating tumor cell;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting women in the western countries. Today x-ray digital mammography (DM) of the breast is commonly used for early detection of breast cancer. However, the sensitivity of mammography is limited, mainly due to the fact that a 3D volume is projected down to a 2D image. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The Role of Projected Anatomy, Random Noise, and Spatial Resolution on Clinical Image Quality in Digital Mammography

    Författare :Mark Ruschin; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D breast imaging; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; hybrid images; dose reduction; spatial resolution; pixel size; Breast cancer; digital mammography; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; breast tomosynthesis;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the recent advances in digital detector technology, there is an increasing trend in the use of digital mammography (DM) as a concurrent modality with screen-film mammography (SFM). In order to fully realize its potential, the components of a DM system should be optimized with respect to clinical image quality in order for clinicians to make accurate diagnoses. LÄS MER
