1. Pharmacogenetic studies of thiopurines : focus on thiopurine methyltransferase
Sammanfattning : Pharmacogenetics represents the study ofvariability in drug response due to genetic variations. The thiopurines (6-mercaptopurine, 6-thioguanine and azathioprine) are prodrugs which require metabolic transformation to exert effect. LÄS MER
2. To tear and to heal : pelvic floor dysfunction and childbirth
Sammanfattning : Background: Up to 80% of women are affected by a perineal laceration after their first vaginal birth. An estimated 40–50% of lacerations involve the perineal muscles, and up to 7% are obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI). LÄS MER
3. Essays in Swedish Family Policy
Sammanfattning : Parental Leave Quotas: Peer Effects and Workplace Related CostsIn this paper, I estimate whether the introduction and expansion of parental leave quotas in Sweden triggered spillovers at the workplace level. Using a regression discontinuity design, I find that the introduction of the quota did not affect the uptake of parental leave of male coworkers. LÄS MER
4. Coding to cure : NMR and thermodynamic software applied to congenital heart disease research
Sammanfattning : Regardless of scientific field computers have become pivotal tools for data analysis and the field of structural biology is not an exception. Here, computers are the main tools used for tasks including structural calculations of proteins, spectral analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy data and fitting mathematical models to data. 5. Biophysical Characterization of Thiopurine S-Methyltransferase : A Key enzyme in the Effects of Thiopurine Drugs
Sammanfattning : In the treatment of leukemia and inflammatory bowel disease, thiopurines are commonly used drugs. Thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT) is one of the drug metabolizing enzymes responsible of counteracting the formation of TGNs that will be incorporated into the DNA and RNA synthesis and thus induce apoptosis.
