  1. 1. Compression moulding of thermoplastic composite sandwich components

    Författare :Malin Åkermo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates various aspects of compressionmoulding of sandwich components with thermoplastic-basedcomposite faces and thermoplastic or thermoset core.Compression moulding of glass/polypropylene (PP) faces toexpanded PP core is initially experimentally investigated usinga statistical experimental design approach. 2. 2. Towards 3D modelling of Compression Moulding of SMC

    Författare :Gustaf Alnersson; Staffan Lundström; Anna-Lena Ljung; Rickard Östlund; Yvonne Aitomäki; Malin Åkermo; Patrik Fernberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The automotive industry is facing ever increasing demands for reduced emissions, and lightweight solutions are thusly required. One field that has significant potential in this regard is composite materials, which can offer a good combination of weight reduction and mechanical properties. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Testing and analysis of composites with 3D woven reinforcement

    Författare :Tomas Ekermann; Malin Åkermo; Stefan Hallström; Lars Pilgaard Mikkelsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 3D weave; finite element; manufacturing; yarn path; weaving; failure criteria; mechanical testing; 3D väv; finita element; tillverkning; trådbanor; vävning; brottkriterier; mekanisk provning; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Composites with three-dimensional (3D) reinforcement have several benefits, compared to laminated composites. Their through-thickness reinforcement increase the out-of-plane properties significantly and could eliminate problems with delaminations. Also, these composites have proven to have great damage tolerance and energy absorption. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tooling and processing for efficient and high tolerance prepreg composite manufacturing

    Författare :Tommy Grankäll; Malin Åkermo; Per Hallander; Simon Bickerton; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tooling; Composite Manufacturing; Mould; Cure tool; Hot-forming; Compensation; Moisture; Shape distortion; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Aerospace Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Composite use is normally motivated in aircraft design by improved weight-specific mechanical properties as compared to metals. However, fatigue and dielectric properties may also be critical for material selection. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Towards defect free forming of multi-stacked composite aerospace components using tailored interlayer properties

    Författare :Per Hallander; Malin Åkermo; Pascal Hubert; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbon Fibre; Composites; Prepreg; Forming; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Aerospace Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Use of lightweight materials is an important part of reduction of fuel consumption by commercial aircraft. A considerable number of structural aircraft parts are therefore built of thin layers of epoxy pre-impregnated carbon fibres stacked to laminates. LÄS MER
