1. Signal Transduction in Malignant Cells – Transformation, Activation and Differentiation
Sammanfattning : All aspects of cell life are regulated by signal transduction mechanisms. This thesis describes the regulatory roles of a few key signal transduction molecules involved in three major biological responses. LÄS MER
2. Molecular markers reflecting malignant transformation and tumor progression
Sammanfattning : The early detection of neoplastic lesions is most critical in the successful treatment of malignant disease. This thesis investigates molecular targets for an improved detection and diagnosis of cancer by exploring the value of interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect specific chromosomal aneuploidies and gene amplifications, and laminin-5 gamma2 chain expression detected by immunohistochemistry as a marker for invasiveness. 3. Integration of RNA and protein expression profiles to study human cells
Sammanfattning : Cellular life is highly complex. In order to expand our understanding of the workings of human cells, in particular in the context of health and disease, detailed knowledge about the underlying molecular systems is needed. LÄS MER
4. Malignant transformation of the colorectal mucosa in inflammatory bowel disease
Sammanfattning : Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) are disorders of unknown etiology, often referred to as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients with longstanding, extensive colonic IBD is an important clinical problem. LÄS MER
5. Oral leukoplakia, human papillomavirus and cancer transformation : Factors related to human papillomavirus infection and cell proliferation
Sammanfattning : Oral leukoplakia (OL) is clinically diagnosed as a white oral lesion that cannot be scraped of or diagnosed as any other type of oral lesion. OL has the potential to transform into oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The gold standard treatment is a combination of surgical excision if possible, and surveillance. LÄS MER
