6. Cytogenetic studies of primary and metastatic breast cancer
Sammanfattning : A series of primary and metastatic breast carcinomas obtained from female and male patients were cytogenetically analysed. Trisomy 12 was identified as a recurrent and sometimes early event in breast carcinogenesis. LÄS MER
7. Living with cancer - Impact on cancer patient and partner
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study different aspects of health on a population based level for persons with four common forms of cancer and their partners, and from an individual level to explore the impact on the daily life situation of living with advanced colorectal cancer for persons with cancer and their partners. Population based register data was used to compare different aspects of health among patients with colorectal, lung, breast and prostate cancer and their partners before and after the cancer diagnosis. 8. Identification of novel BRCA2-binding proteins that are essential for meiotic homologous recombination
Sammanfattning : Meiotic recombination is a molecular process in which the induction and repair of programmed DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) creates genetic exchange between homologous chromosomes and thus increases genetic diversity and ensures chromosome segregation. Breast cancer susceptibility gene 2 (BRCA2) is a potent cancer suppressor and is required for DSB repair by homologous recombination (HR) in mitosis. LÄS MER
9. Reproductive factors with respect to breast cancer risk and breast cancer survival
Sammanfattning : Aims: The primary aim of this thesis was to examine the potential relationship between indirect markers of exposure to hormones during pregnancy and the risk of and survival from breast cancer, with special emphasis on young patients. Our specific objectives were as follows: to determine whether the association between placental weight and offspring size, on the one hand, and maternal mortality from breast cancer, on the other, are influenced by tumor characteristics; to examine the association between birth weight and risk of breast cancer in the female member of opposite-sexed twins; and to investigate whether familial factors influence previously reported association between reproductive factors and risk of breast cancer. 10. Exploring vitamin D and steroid hormone receptors – from healthy elderly to prostate cancer cells
Sammanfattning : The genetic background together with environmental factors and lifestyle are key contributors to the health of an individual. Genetic background is inherited and irreversible unless mutations occur. However, lifestyle habits (i.e. LÄS MER
