  1. 1. NOx Production by Ionisation Processes in Air

    Författare :Mahbubur Rahman; Vernon Cooray; Pierre Laroche; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; Nitrogen oxides; Lightning; Electrical Discharges; Cosmic Rays; Troposphere; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The study presented in this thesis was motivated by the large uncertainty on the concentration of atmospheric electrical discharges to the global nitrogen budget. This uncertainty is partly due to the fact that information concerning the NOx production efficiency of electrical discharges having current signatures similar to those of lightning flashes is not available in the literature. 2. 2. Interaction of Lightning Flashes with Wireless Communication Networks : Special Attention to Narrow Bipolar Pulses

    Författare :Mohd Riduan Ahmad; Vernon Cooray; Mahbubur Rahman; Rajeev Thottappillil; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Latitude; Lightning; Narrow bipolar pulse; Wireless network.; Engineering Science with specialization in Atmospheric Discharges; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot atmosfäriska urladdningar;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the features of electric field signatures of narrow bipolar pulses (NBPs) generated by cloud flashes are investigated and their effects on wireless communication systems are studied. A handful amount of NBPs (14.5%) have been observed to occur as part of cloud-to-ground flashes in South Malaysia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterizations of ground flashes from tropic to northern region

    Författare :Zikri Abadi Baharudin; Vernon Cooray; Mahbubur Rahman; Farhad Rachidi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Positive negative cloud-to-ground lightning flashes; Initiation position; slow field changes; close ground flashes; preliminary breakdown process; Engineering Science with specialization in Atmospheric Discharges; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot atmosfäriska urladdningar;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis portrays new information concerning the cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes or ground flashes produced by thunderclouds. It emphasizes the importance of characterizing lightning studies as the relationship between lightning mechanisms, and of incorporating the influence of geographical location, latitude and storm type. 4. 4. Temporal and Wavelet Characteristics of Initial Breakdown and Narrow Bipolar Pulses of Lightning Flashes

    Författare :Mona Riza Mohd Esa; Vernon Cooray; Mahbubur Rahman; Farhad Rachidi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Initial breakdown; Lightning flash; Narrow bipolar pulse; Temporal-Wavelet characterization; Engineering Science with specialization in Atmospheric Discharges; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot atmosfäriska urladdningar;

    Sammanfattning : Temporal and wavelet characteristics of initial breakdown pulses are meticulously studied especially during the earliest moment of lightning events. Any possible features during the earliest moment that may exist which lead to either negative cloud-to-ground (CG), positive cloud-to-ground, cloud or isolated breakdown flashes in Sweden are investigated. 5. 5. Measurements of X-Ray Emission from Laboratory Sparks and Upward Initiated Lightning

    Författare :Pasan Hettiarachchi; Vernon Cooray; Mats Leijon; Mahbubur Rahman; Marcos Rubinstein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray; upward lighting; laboratory discharges; energy distribution;

    Sammanfattning : In 1925 Nobel laureate R. C. Wilson predicted that high electric fields of thunderstorms could accelerate electrons to relativistic energies which are capable of generating high energetic radiation. The first detection of X-rays from lightning was made in 2001 and from long sparks in 2005. LÄS MER
