21. Visualizing structural dynamics: from small molecules to membrane proteins
Sammanfattning : To fully understand the mechanism of a chemical reaction, it is important to characterize the rapid structural dynamics of transient chemical species as the reaction propagates. Since chemical processes are heavily influenced by the solvent in which they occur, the interaction with the surrounding solution also needs to be elucidated. LÄS MER
22. On cerebrospinal fluid markers of HIV-1 infection
Sammanfattning : HIV-1 infects the central nervous system early in the course of infection and neurological complications are common in HIV-1-infected individuals. Approximately 20% of individuals with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) not treated with antiretroviral therapy develop a subcortical dementia, AIDS dementia complex (ADC). LÄS MER
23. Physiological demands of competitive elite cross-country skiing
Sammanfattning : Introduction Researchers have, for decades, contributed to an increased collective understanding of the physiological demands in cross-country skiing; however, almost all of these studies have used either non-elite subjects and/or performances that emulate cross-country skiing. To establish the physiological demands of cross-country skiing, it is important to relate the investigated physiological variables to the competitive performance of elite skiers. LÄS MER
24. Electron-Lattice Dynamics in pi-Conjugated Systems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we explore in particular the dynamics of a special type of quasi-particle in pi-conjugated materials termed polaron, the origin of which is intimately related to the strong interactions between the electronic and the vibrational degrees of freedom within these systems. In order to conduct such studies with the particular focus of each appended paper, we simultaneously solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and the lattice equation of motion with a three-dimensional extension of the famous Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model Hamiltonian. 25. Electron-lattice dynamics in π-conjugated systems
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the dynamics in π-conjugated hydrocarbon systems. Due to the molecular bonding structure of these systems there exists a coupling between the electronic system and the phonons of the lattice. LÄS MER
