16. Magnetic Heterostructures : The Effect of Compositional Modulation on Magnetic Properties
Sammanfattning : The effect of compositional modulation on structural and magnetic properties of magnetic heterostructures was explored. The systems under focus were ferromagnetic superlattices Fe81Ni19/Co, metal-insulator multilayers Al2O3/Ni81Fe19, nanoparticles and artificial multilayered pillars. LÄS MER
17. Enhanced Polarizing Neutron Optics with 11B4C Incorporation : SLD Tunability, Interface Refinement, and Elimination of Magnetic Coercivity
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores novel strategies for improving Fe-based polarizing neutron optics, a critical part for improving neutron scattering methods to study materials science, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry and cultural heritage. Polarization analysis is important in uncovering data on magnetic domains, protein structures, molecular composition and orientation in biological systems, and ion-diffusion mechanisms that would otherwise be inaccessible. 18. A Structural Viewpoint of Magnetism in Fe and Co Based Superlattices
Sammanfattning : In order to understand the properties of thin film devices, knowledge of the material's structure is essential. The work presented here combines magnetic and structural characterization of the systems studied to gain a deeper physical understanding. LÄS MER
19. Magnetic materials with tunable thermal, electrical, and dynamic properties : An experimental study of magnetocaloric, multiferroic, and spin-glass materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns and combines the results of experimental studies of magnetocaloric, multiferroic and spin-glass materials, using SQUID magnetometry as the main characteriza-tion technique. The magnetocaloric effect offers an interesting new technology for cooling and heating applications. LÄS MER
20. On the Zero and Low Field Vortex Dynamics : An Experimental Study of Type-II Superconductors
Sammanfattning : Dynamic properties of type-II superconductors have been experimentally studied in zero and low magnetic fields using SQUID magnetometry and I–V measurements. In zero magnetic field close to the critical temperature, the physical properties of type-II superconductors are dominated by spontaneously created vortices.
