1. Fusion activation in murine leukemia virus
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the fusion activation in Murine leukaemia virus (MLV). During entry of retroviruses into uninfected cells, the viral and cellular membranes fuse. The fusion process is mediated by the viral envelope protein composed of three SU and TM heterodimers. LÄS MER
2. Incorporation of cellular proteins into enveloped virus particles
Sammanfattning : This thesis work aimed to investigate the assembly and budding of enveloped virus particles with focus on the fate of cellular proteins, present in or near the plasma membrane (PM) where the budding occurs. It was previously shown that compact viruses, like alphaviruses, with a covering outer protein coat, did not contain any cellular proteins in the envelope. LÄS MER
3. Activation of retrovirus spikes for membrane fusion
Sammanfattning : Retroviruses are enveloped viruses that use reverse transcriptase to convert their RNA genome into DNA which is integrated into the host DNA. They enter into the cell by a membrane fusion process. In this the viral membrane fuses with that of the cell so that the internal capsid of the virus with the genome can be released into the cell cytoplasm. LÄS MER
4. Biophysical Studies of Apolipoprotein A-IM and a Partitioning study
Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis deals with the similarities and differences in some biophysical properties of apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and the molecular variant apolipoprotein A-IMilano (apo A-IM), and the influence on lipid binding. A model compound partitioning study has also been performed. LÄS MER
5. Human Endogenous Retroviruses: Studies on Transcriptional Activity and Genetic Variability
Sammanfattning : Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are believed to be remains of germ-line infections that have become fixed in the population. They are involved in pathophysiological conditions, in mechanisms leading to infection protection, and directly in the physiology of the organism by participating in the regulation of cellular gene expression.
