  1. 1. Water splitting in natural and artificial photosynthetic systems

    Författare :Sergey Koroidov; Johannes Messinger; Richard J. Debus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water splitting; photosystem II; artificial catalyst; MIMS; inorganic carbon;

    Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the unique biological process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, for example sugars, using the energy of sunlight. Thereby solar energy is converted into chemical energy. Nearly all life depends on this reaction, either directly, or indirectly as the ultimate source of their food. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular mechanisms and biological consequences of the production of non-canonical D-amino acids in bacteria

    Författare :Alena Aliashkevich; Felipe Cava; Fredrik Almqvist; Andrew J Roe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bacteria; cell wall; peptidoglycan; D-amino acids; LD-transpeptidase;

    Sammanfattning : Most bacteria possess a vital net-like macromolecule – peptidoglycan (PG). PG encases bacteria around the cytoplasmic membrane to withstand the high internal turgor pressure and thereby protect the cell from bursting. In addition, PG is a major morphological determinant of bacteria being both required and sufficient to maintain cell shape. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulatory pathways and virulence inhibition in Listeria monocytogenes

    Författare :Christopher Andersson; Jörgen Johansson; Debra Milton; Åke Forsberg; Claude Parsot; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Listeria monocytogenes; PrfA; ActA; infection; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Listeria monocytogenes is a rod-shaped Gram positive bacterium. It generally exist ubiquitously in nature, where it lives as a saprophyte. Occasionally it however enters the food chain, from where it can be ingested by humans and cause gastro-intestinal distress. In immunocompetent individuals L. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Multifaceted RNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms in Streptococcus pyogenes

    Författare :Anaïs Le Rhun; Emmanuelle Charpentier; Franz Narberhaus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streptococcus pyogenes; small RNAs; CRISPR; Cas9; tracrRNA; RNases; gene expression; RNA sequencing; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial pathogens rely on precise regulation of gene expression to coordinate host infection processes and resist invasion by mobile genetic elements. An interconnected network of protein and RNA regulators dynamically controls the expression of virulence factors using a variety of mechanisms. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Post-transcriptional regulation by RNases in Streptococcus pyogenes

    Författare :Anne-Laure Lécrivain; Emmanuelle Charpentier; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Tracy Nissan; Ciarán Condon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Post-transcriptional regulation; mRNA decay; RNA sequencing; RNase Y; RNase III; YhaM; PNPase; RNase R; RNase J1; Streptococcus pyogenes.; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Ribonucleases (RNases) are proteins that adjust cellular RNA levels by processing RNA transcripts, leading to their stabilization or degradation. RNases are grouped based on their ability to cleave the transcript internally (endoRNases) or degrade the transcript starting from the ends (exoRNases). LÄS MER
