  1. 1. Studies of cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer cells in relation to MHC class I presented peptides

    Författare :Lars Franksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :T-cell; NK cell; MHC class I; peptide;

    Sammanfattning : In the defense against disease it is essential for the immune system to be able to discriminate self/normal from non-self/abnormal. This key feature of the immune system relies on the presentation of antigens by MHC class I and class II molecules. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Antigen presenting cells in autoimmune diabetes: phenotype, function and modulation by Linomide

    Författare :Eva Dahlén; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Linomide; costimulation; TNF-a; dendritic cells; Diabetes; macrophages; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to better understand the role of antigen presenting cells (APC) in the development of diabetes in the nonobese diabetic (NOD) mouse. We have shown that DC and Mphi that infiltrate the islets of Langerhans produce tumour necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), a cytokine known to contribute to the pathogenesis in the early stages of diabetes development. 3. 3. Molecular and cellular strategies to enhance efficacy of T cell-based cancer therapy

    Författare :Pascal Dammeyer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :β2-microglobulin; MHC class I antigen defects; immune escape; heal-inducible; amplifier vector; GM-CSF; tumor immunity; T lymphocytes;

    Sammanfattning : A combined approach of vaccination with β2-microglobulin (β2m)-deficient dendritic cells (DCs) and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) as a potent adjuvant may link cellular and molecular strategies to further enhance anti-tumor T-cell responses. T lymphocytes can mediate a potent anti-tumor immune response. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modulation of cellular and viral functions in Epstein-Barr virus infected cells

    Författare :Marta P Imreh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to investigate the interplay of cellular and viral genes in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infected cells. Two aspects of this interaction have been investigated. The first aspect is related to the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules in virus infected malignant cells. 5. 5. Learning from primary immunodeficiencies to treat cancer

    Författare :Mariana M S Oliveira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system is a fine-tuned network of cells, tissues, organs and biological processes working together in order to protect our body. Immunodeficiency disorders occur when the body’s immune system is reduced or absent and can be characterized as primary, if the cause of disease is genetic; or secondary, if the cause of disease are extrinsic factors.
