  1. 1. Design and Synthesis of Chalcone and Chromone Derivatives as Novel Anticancer Agents

    Författare :Christine Dyrager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcones; Chromones; Fluorescence; Fluorophore; Cellular imaging; Anticancer; Tubulin; Microtubule; Kinase inhibitors; p38; MEK1; Palladium-mediated reactions; Molecular modeling; Structure-Activity Relationships.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises the design and synthesis of chalcone and chromone derivatives and their use in various biological applications, particularly as anticancer agents (targeting proteins associated with cancer pathogenesis) and as potential fluorophores for live-cell imaging. Conveniently, all structures presented were synthesized from commercially available 2 ́-hydroxyacetophenones. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Macrophage Activation and AP-1 in Atherosclerosis

    Författare :Maria Stollenwerk; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Cardiovascular system; carotid plaque; interleukin-1b; caspase-1.; very low-density lipoprotein; fatty acids; activator protein-1; inflammation; Atherosclerosis; nuclear factor-kB; macrophages; tumor necrosis factor;

    Sammanfattning : High levels of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and intermediate density lipoprotein (IDL) have been identified as independent risk factors for coronary heart disease. Hypertriglyceridemia is generally associated with an increased expression of inflammatory makers and inflammation is thought to contribute to atherosclerosis and its complications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exercise effects on the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase cascade in skeletal muscle

    Författare :Ulrika Widegren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :skeletal muscle; MAP kinase; contraction; acute exercise; Akt kinase; exercise intensity; signal transduction; fiber-type;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise-induced adaptations in skeletal muscle are regulated by numerous signaling mechanisms. However, little is known about the molecular signaling mechanisms linking muscle contraction or other exercise-associated stimuli to intracellular responses in skeletal muscle. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain

    Författare :Hilda Ahnstedt; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelin receptors; Cerebral ischemia; sex; estrogen; progesterone; sex differences; human cerebral arteries; endothelin-1; angiotensin II; middle cerebral artery occlusion; extra-cellular signal regulated kinase 1 and 2;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 5. 5. Gene regulation, intracellular signaling and membrane traffic : studies in primary human skeletal muscle cultures

    Författare :Lubna Al-Khalili; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Skeletal muscle cultures; insulin signal transduction; glucose transport; GLUT4; RNAi; Na ; K -ATPase; MEF2;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle is an insulin sensitive organ and plays a major role in whole body electrolyte and substrate homeostasis in the post prandial state. Impaired insulin action in skeletal muscle may lead to the pathological condition of insulin resistance. LÄS MER
