  1. 21. Molecular Mechanisms of Resin Acids and Their Derivatives on the Opening of a Potassium Channel

    Författare :Nina Ottosson; Fredrik Elinder; David Engblom; Bertil Hille; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated ion channels play fundamental roles in excitable cells, such as neurons, where they enable electric signaling. Normally, this signaling is well controlled, but brain damage, alterations in the ionic composition of the extracellular solution, or dysfunctional ion channels can increase the electrical excitability thereby causing epilepsy. Sammanfattning : Industrial biotechnology has been announced by several organizations and governments as a key enabling technology for the enhanced economic growth in a low-carbon and knowledge-based bioeconomy. An important goal to promote an environment friendly and sustainable industrial biotechnology is the discovery of new enzymes. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Sources of preanalytical error in primary health care : implications for patient safety

    Författare :Johan Söderberg; Christine Brulin; Ewa Idvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood specimen collection; haemolysis; medical errors; phlebotomy; preanalytical; primary health care; quality indicators; quality of health care; questionnaires; specimen handling; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background Venous blood tests constitute an important part in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. However, test results are often viewed as objective values rather than the end result of a complex process. This has clinical importance since most errors arise before the sample reaches the laboratory. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Molecular Signatures of Neuropathic Pain : Revealing Pain-Related Signaling Processes in Spinal Cord Using Mass Spectrometric Methodologies

    Författare :Ping Sui; Jonas Bergquist; Konstantin Artemenko; Janne Lehtiö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; Spinal cord; Neuropathic pain; Quantitative proteomics; Imaging mass spectrometry; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the detection of global proteomics alteration and changes in neuropeptide distribution caused by neuropathic pain in rat spinal cord tissue was the main focus. Neuropathic pain (NP) is a major clinical syndrome caused by disease or dysfunction of the nervous system and often mediated by neuronal networks in the spinal cord. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis : Studies in interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor alpha, monocyte activity, acute phase markers, glucocorticoids, and disability

    Författare :Nils Gunnar Arvidson; Anders Larsson; Arvi Larsen; Øystein Førre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; acute phase markers; circadian rhythm; disability; disease activity; glucocorticoids; monocyte activation; rheumatoid arthritis; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : In the present studies, aspects of some disease activity measures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have been investigated, including the effect of glucocorticoids on this activity. In RA, serum interleukin(IL)-6 levels were elevated and were shown to have a circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the morning, declining towards low or normal levels in the afternoon and evening.
