21. Molecular Mechanisms of Resin Acids and Their Derivatives on the Opening of a Potassium Channel
Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated ion channels play fundamental roles in excitable cells, such as neurons, where they enable electric signaling. Normally, this signaling is well controlled, but brain damage, alterations in the ionic composition of the extracellular solution, or dysfunctional ion channels can increase the electrical excitability thereby causing epilepsy. 22. Methods development for metaproteomics-guided bioprospecting of novel enzymes
Sammanfattning : Industrial biotechnology has been announced by several organizations and governments as a key enabling technology for the enhanced economic growth in a low-carbon and knowledge-based bioeconomy. An important goal to promote an environment friendly and sustainable industrial biotechnology is the discovery of new enzymes. LÄS MER
23. Sources of preanalytical error in primary health care : implications for patient safety
Sammanfattning : Background Venous blood tests constitute an important part in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. However, test results are often viewed as objective values rather than the end result of a complex process. This has clinical importance since most errors arise before the sample reaches the laboratory. LÄS MER
24. Molecular Signatures of Neuropathic Pain : Revealing Pain-Related Signaling Processes in Spinal Cord Using Mass Spectrometric Methodologies
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the detection of global proteomics alteration and changes in neuropeptide distribution caused by neuropathic pain in rat spinal cord tissue was the main focus. Neuropathic pain (NP) is a major clinical syndrome caused by disease or dysfunction of the nervous system and often mediated by neuronal networks in the spinal cord. LÄS MER
25. Disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis : Studies in interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor alpha, monocyte activity, acute phase markers, glucocorticoids, and disability
Sammanfattning : In the present studies, aspects of some disease activity measures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have been investigated, including the effect of glucocorticoids on this activity. In RA, serum interleukin(IL)-6 levels were elevated and were shown to have a circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the morning, declining towards low or normal levels in the afternoon and evening.
