  1. 6. Modelling depression in animals and the potential antidepressant effect of histaminergic modulation

    Författare :Salvatore Magara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Depression is at the top position for "years lived with disability" (Smith, 2014). Its aetiology is unknown, but the pathogenesis implicates changes in glutamatergic neuronal plasticity. Glutamatergic plasticity likely mediates the effects of antidepressants acting through monoamines. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Functional aspects of prothrombin in bone

    Författare :Erik Karlström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Prothrombin (PT) is the inactive zymogen to the serine protease alpha-thrombin which in the coagulation cascade is responsible for clot formation through converting fibrinogen to fibrin. PT has been shown to be present in calcified bone matrix, and alpha-thrombin has been implicated in various bone resorbing disorders of inflammatory origin, such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis. 3. 8. The effects of some peptide hormones on osteoblast-like cells : with specific focus on oxytocin and vasopressin

    Författare :Alena Lagumdzija; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :h0B; SaOS-2; OXT; AVP; IGF-I; PTH; PTHrP; eNOSKO;

    Sammanfattning : The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and vasopressin (AVP) are mainly produced in the hypothalamus and released into the circulation through the neurohypophysis. Recently, an OXT-receptor was demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells, and it has been suggested that patients with central diabetes insipidus (deficiency of AVP) have decreased bone mass. 4. 9. Studies of effector functions in mycobacterium tuberculosis-infected macrophages with implications for host-directed therapies

    Författare :SSV Jagadeeswara Rao Muvva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis infection remains a global health problem and the emergence of multidrugresistant TB (MDR-TB) adds further challenges in the battle to stop the spread of infection. Macrophages are the primary host cells to be infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), and are therefore key cells in the initial control of TB infection. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Eicosanoids and exosomes : a link between macrophages and lung cancer

    Författare :Ana Lukic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic inflammation increases the risk of lung cancer. Macrophages (MO) are important players in inflammation, with regulatory and executive functions. Eicosanoids and exosomes can be both triggers and mediators of these functions. LÄS MER
