  1. 16. Vascular progenitor cells in arterial remodeling

    Författare :Monika K Grudzinska; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of global mortality and physical disability mainly due to the complications such as myocardial infarction or stroke. Physiological healing reaction takes place in the diseased vessel wall aimed to repair the vessel after an injury. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Circulating Biomarkers in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer and the Influence of Cigarette Smoking

    Författare :Bengt-Åke Andersson; Nongnit Laytragoon-Lewin; Pierre Åman; Charlotta Dabrosin; Mikael Johansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a collective name for heterogeneous tumors located in the head and neck regions for which smoking, alcohol and human papillomavirus (HPV) are documented risk factors. The survival of HNC patients has only improved marginally during the last decade. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Pulmonary Injury Following Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

    Författare :Anna Börjesson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reperfusion injury; intestinal ischemia; pulmonary injury; endothelium; cytokines; alveolar fluid clearance; leukocytes; orthopaedics; Surgery; traumatology; ortopedi; Kirurgi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is a potentially life-threatening condition, sometimes leading to a systemic inflammatory response and the potential development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The overall aim of the thesis was to study the effects of intestinal I/R on pulmonary function with special emphasis on removal of excess alveolar fluid, pulmonary endothelial barrier permeability, leukocyte accumulation and function, and possible therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of pulmonary injury following intestinal I/R. 4. 19. In vitro studies on human first trimester forebrain cells : differentiation and interactions with immunoregulating molecules

    Författare :Alyaa Mohammed Ali Mousa; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has focused on understanding, at the molecular level, growth regulation and differentiation of human first trimester forebrain cells, and the immune signals mediating these processes. Primary cultures were established from human forebrain tissue derived from elective first trimester abortions. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Modulation of inflammatory mediators during experimental bacterial meningitis

    Författare :Hana Khidir Abdalla; Kristian Riesbeck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial meningitis is a worldwide health problem with high morbidity and mortality mainly caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (eNS) initiated by cell wall or membrane components from the bacteria. LÄS MER
