    Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant on various surfaces, their applications in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics. Some mathematical models that employ these extreme points such as curve fitting, data smoothing, experimental design, electrostatics, risk control in finance and method for finding the extreme points on certain surfaces are demonstrated. Författare :Anders Andersson; Högskolan i Jönköping; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwarz–Christoffel mapping; rounded corners; tangent polygons; outer polygon; zipper algorithm; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Sammanfattning : In many applications, conformal mappings are used to transform twodimensional regions into simpler ones. One such region for which conformal mappings are needed is a channel bounded by continuously differentiable curves. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on numerical algorithms for efficient solution of QTL analysis problem in genetics.Firstly, we consider QTL mapping problems where a standard least-squares model is used for computing the model fit. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Numerical methods for wave propagation in solids containing faults and fluid-filled fractures

    Författare :Ossian O'Reilly; Jan Nordström; Per Lötstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis develops numerical methods for the simulation of wave propagation in solids containing faults and fluid-filled fractures. These techniques have applications in earthquake hazard analysis, seismic imaging of reservoirs, and volcano seismology. A central component of this work is the coupling of mechanical systems. Sammanfattning : Boundary-contact problems (BCPs) are studied within the frames ofclassical mathematical theory of elasticity and plasticityelaborated by Landau, Kupradze, Timoshenko, Goodier, Fichera andmany others on the basis of analysis of two- and three-dimensionalboundary value problems for linear partial differential equations.A great attention is traditionally paid both to theoreticalinvestigations using variational methods and boundary singularintegral equations (Muskhelishvili) and construction of solutionsin the form that admit efficient numerical evaluation (Kupradze).
