1. Free Boundary Problems of Obstacle Type, a Numerical and Theoretical Study
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers and it mainly addresses the theory and schemes to approximate the quadrature domains, QDs. The first deals with the uniqueness and some qualitative properties of the two QDs. The concept of two phase QDs, is more complicated than its one counterpart and consequently introduces significant and interesting open. LÄS MER
2. Adaptive Algorithms and High Order Stabilization for Finite Element Computation of Turbulent Compressible Flow
Sammanfattning : This work develops finite element methods with high order stabilization, and robust and efficient adaptive algorithms for Large Eddy Simulation of turbulent compressible flows. The equations are approximated by continuous piecewise linear functions in space, and the time discretization is done in implicit/explicit fashion: the second order Crank-Nicholson method and third/fourth order explicit Runge-Kutta methods. 3. Mathematical Tools Applied in Computational Electromagnetics for a Biomedical Application and Antenna Analysis
Sammanfattning : To ensure a high level of safety and reliability of electronic/electric systems EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) tests together with computational techniques are used. In this thesis, mathematical modeling and computational electromagnetics are applied to mainly two case studies. LÄS MER
4. Energy-conservative finite element methods for nonlinear Schrödinger equations
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to numerical methods for nonlinear Schrödingerequations (NLSEs). These equations have applications in a variety offields such as optics, fluid dynamics, solid-state physics and, of course, quantum mechanics. Notably, the cubic NLSE describes the dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates. LÄS MER
5. Numerical Conformal Mappings for Regions Bounded by Smooth Curves
Sammanfattning : In many applications, conformal mappings are used to transform twodimensional regions into simpler ones. One such region for which conformal mappings are needed is a channel bounded by continuously differentiable curves. LÄS MER
