1. The Location and Variability of Southern ocean Fronts
Sammanfattning : The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. Moreover, the Subtropical Front (STF) is believed play a key role in the global climate system. LÄS MER
2. A Needs-Based Approach towards Fostering Long-term Engagement with Energy Feedback among Local Residents
Sammanfattning : In order to reach the current climate goals, energy consumption needs to decrease in all sectors, including households, which produce 20% of the European emissions. However, it is difficult to increase residents’ engagement in their household electricity consumption as it is an ‘invisible’ form of energy, the monetary incentives are often too small and environmental incentives are not very effective. 3. Performance of Non-ceramic Insulators in Tropical Environments
Sammanfattning : Non-ceramic insulators have been tested in the field and under laboratory conditions in many countries for more than three decades. Nevertheless, information about their performance in tropical environments is rather limited. Thus, this project was conducted in order to fill the gap. LÄS MER
4. The role of Southern Ocean fronts in the global climate system
Sammanfattning : The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. However, until recently fronts have been poorly resolved by available data and climate models. LÄS MER
5. Intrinsic tunneling spectroscopic investigations of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x superconductors : The fluxon lattice, resonant phenomena,flux-flow and current doping
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the tunneling between individual atomic layers in structures of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x based high-temperature superconductors are experimentally studied employing the intrinsic Josephson effect. A special attention is paid on the fabrication of small mesa structures using micro and nanofabrication techniques. LÄS MER
