1. Bioinformatic methods in rare disease genomics
Sammanfattning : The larger goal of medical genetics is to map genotype to phenotype and to understand how genomic variation affects human health. In the field of rare disease genomics, there is a mendelian assumption that states: one disease one variant. LÄS MER
2. Scalable and Efficient Probabilistic Topic Model Inference for Textual Data
Sammanfattning : Probabilistic topic models have proven to be an extremely versatile class of mixed-membership models for discovering the thematic structure of text collections. There are many possible applications, covering a broad range of areas of study: technology, natural science, social science and the humanities. LÄS MER
3. Effects of repetitive work on proprioception and of stretching on sensory mechanisms : implications for work-related neuromuscular disorders
Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were (i) to investigate the impact of repetitive low-intensity work exposure on proprioception and (ii) to examine effects of muscle stretching (especially sensory effects and effects on muscle nociception) and to relate its application to the prevention, alleviation and/or treatment of work-related neuromuscular disorders. The effects of low-intensity repetitive work on the shoulder proprioception were tested in healthy subjects. LÄS MER
4. Inner ear proteomics and barriers : Clinical and experimental findings
Sammanfattning : Hearing is important in many aspects of life, including communication, assessing one’s surroundings, entertainment and social interaction. Hearing loss is common and according to the Global Burden of Disease Study, 5% of the global population require hearing rehabilitation (1). LÄS MER
5. Dynamic posturography in evaluating human equilibrium
Sammanfattning : Equilibrium assessment by means of posturography can be performed ina dynamic fashion, meaning that the environment does not remainstable during the test. In the EquiTest dynamic posturography version, the support surface and the visual surround are movable, actively or in response to body movements. LÄS MER
