  1. 11. A STING from a Tick : Epidemiology, Ecology and Clinical Aspects of Lyme Borreliosis

    Författare :Peter Wilhelmsson; Per-Eric Lindgren; Pia Forsberg; Sven Bergström; Christina Ekerfelt; Jeremy S. Gray; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most common tick-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere and the number of LB cases is increasing. The infection is caused by spirochetes belonging to the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex, and is, in Europe, transmitted to humans by Ixodes ricinus ticks. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Quantifying hydroclimatic change impacts on infectious diseases : Signals and geographies from local to global scale

    Författare :Yan Ma; Georgia Destouni; Zahra Kalantari; Arvid Bring; Rita Colwell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydroclimatic change; infectious diseases; climate sensitivity; disease geography; quantitative study; scoping review; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Hydroclimatic change has the potential to directly or indirectly increase the occurrence and expand or shift the geographical range of infectious diseases. This may pose particular threats in the Nordic-Arctic Region, where warming is more rapid than in other parts of the world, but the climate sensitivities of various infectious diseases still remain to be investigated in this and other regions. 3. 13. Biology of Borrelia garinii Spirochetes

    Författare :Pär Comstedt; Sven Bergström; Wolfram R. Zückert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Borrelia garinii; Lyme borreliosis; birds; migration; reservoir host; complement; Ixodes ricinus; Europe; Asia; infection cycle; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lyme borreliosis is a tick-transmitted infectious disease. The causative agents are spiral-shaped bacteria and the most common sign of infection is a skin rash at the site of the tick bite. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Borrelia channel-forming proteins : structure and function

    Författare :Ignas Bunikis; Sven Bergström; Steven Norris; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Borrelia is a Gram-negative, corkscrew-shaped bacterium transmitted by infected ticks or lice. Borreliae are subdivided into pathogens of two diseases: Lyme disease, caused mainly by B. burgdorferi, B. afzelii and B. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Epidemiological aspects of tick borne diseases with focus on risk and prevention

    Författare :Louise Stjernberg; Pia Forsberg; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []

    Sammanfattning : The incidence and variety of diseases associated with ticks have increased world-wide and ticks are currently considered to be second only to mosquitoes as vectors of human infectious diseases in the world. In the northern hemisphere, Ixodes ricinus, the most common tick, transmits diseases caused by several infectious pathogens, including different types of bacteria, virus and protozoa. LÄS MER
