  1. 21. Laboratory methods for investigation of the immunological orchestra in response to pathogens

    Författare :Hanna Carlsson; Ivar Tjernberg; Christina Ekerfelt; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Jorma Hinkula; Matti Sällberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia; Influenza; Immunology; Immune response; Cellmediated; Serological; Subclinical; ELISA; Luminex; Proximity extension assay;

    Sammanfattning : Laboratory methods used for investigation of immune response often involve collection of whole blood and analysis of different biomarkers in blood components or generated from pathogen stimulation of whole blood or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Methods used to measure biomarkers are for example enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which measures one biomarker at a time or multiplex assays for example x-unknown, multi-analyte profiling (xMAP) by Luminex or proximity extension assay (PEA), which can measure up to just over 3000 biomarkers at a time. 2. 22. Quantifying hydroclimatic change impacts on infectious diseases : Signals and geographies from local to global scale

    Författare :Yan Ma; Georgia Destouni; Zahra Kalantari; Arvid Bring; Rita Colwell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydroclimatic change; infectious diseases; climate sensitivity; disease geography; quantitative study; scoping review; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Hydroclimatic change has the potential to directly or indirectly increase the occurrence and expand or shift the geographical range of infectious diseases. This may pose particular threats in the Nordic-Arctic Region, where warming is more rapid than in other parts of the world, but the climate sensitivities of various infectious diseases still remain to be investigated in this and other regions. 3. 23. The zoonotic pathogen Borrelia afzelii in its natural hosts : Bacterial dissemination and immuno-transcriptomics

    Författare :Xiuqin Zhong; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Borrelia afzelii; natural hosts; bacterial load; immune response; RNA-seq;

    Sammanfattning : Most pathogens can infect a number of different host species, but host species often differ considerably in susceptibility to a given pathogen. In the case of zoonotic pathogens, natural hosts typically present little or no disease symptoms, while humans and other “spill-over” hosts often present severe symptoms. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Studies of immune responses to cell surface proteins of Helicobacter pylori and Borrelia burgdorferi by enzyme immunoassay and immunoblotting

    Författare :Ingrid Nilsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; B. burgdorferi; H.pylori; cell surface proteins; gel-electrophoresis; enzyme immunoassay; Western immunoblotting; bacteriology; Microbiology; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori and Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. can cause chronic infections by evading the immune system. These two human pathogens express a number of immunogenic cell surface proteins. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Plant-Derived Chemicals as Tick Repellents

    Författare :Samira Sadek Garboui; Thomas Jaenson; Katinka Pålsson; Raimondas Mozuraitis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ixodes ricinus; plants; essential oils; tick repellent; Sweden; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Ixodes ricinus is the main vector of Lyme borreliosis and Tick-borne encephalitis in Europe. Repellents provide a practical means of protection against tick bites and can therefore reduce transmission of tick-borne diseases. LÄS MER
