6. Physiotherapy and physical activity in patients undergoing cardiac or lung cancer surgery
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. Cardiac surgery is performed to improve prognosis, relieve symptoms and increase functional capacity in patients with cardiac disease. Postoperative pulmonary complications are common after cardiac surgery and a reduced lung function can persist a long time after surgery. LÄS MER
7. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) : prevalence, incidence, decline in lung function and risk factors
Sammanfattning : The Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden (OLIN) Studies started in 1985 as an epidemiological project with the aim to detect preventable risk factors for obstructive lung diseases and allergy. In recent years there has been a focus also on obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) besides asthma and allergy. LÄS MER
8. Cross-modal Imaging in Lung Research: From µCT dosimetry to synchrotron phase contrast microtomography biomechanical insights in preclinical lung injury models
Sammanfattning : Lung diseases continue to present a large burden to public health, especially in industrialized countries. For abetter understanding of the underlying patho-mechanisms in lung related diseases as well as for testing theefficacy of novel therapies, preclinical studies in animal models are indispensable. 9. Lung function after cardiac surgery : With special reference to atelectasis and ventilation-perfusion relationships
Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing cardiac surgery were investigated before and after the operation.Ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) relationships were examined by the multiple inert gas elimination method, and atelectasis and aeration of the lungs were examined by computedtomography (CT). LÄS MER
10. Lung function in alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency
Sammanfattning : Hereditary alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency predisposes to liver disease and emphysema. The aims of the studies upon which thesis is based were to investigate the natural course of lung function and risk factors for lung disease in AAT-deficient adolescents (PiZZ and PiSZ) and adults (PiZZ), and to study clinical manifestations in AAT-deficient adults.
