16. Dynamic Fetal and Placental Circulatory Changes during Uterine Contractions
Sammanfattning : The best mode of delivery for fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and umbilical artery (UA) blood flow changes is not well elucidated. Uterine artery, fetal UA, middle cerebral artery (MCA), and venous blood flow changes during uterine contractions during an oxytocin challenge test (OCT) have not been observed systemically. LÄS MER
17. Growth factor regulation of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrium, and the significance of uPA receptor activation in endometrial angiogenesis
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to examine the role of growth factors and the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrial angiogenesis. Growth factors as well as progesterone increased expression of the main inhibitor of uPA (PAI-1) in primary cultures of endometrial stromal cells. LÄS MER
18. Vascular mechanical properties and endothelial function with special reference to pregnancy and hormonal influences
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Early recognition of vascular changes, both structural and functional, may help to identify individuals at risk for CVD. LÄS MER
19. Ultrasound screening for fetal anomalies
Sammanfattning : We studied the prenatal detection rate of various malformations during a study period of 16 years in a population in southern Sweden consisting of 141 240 deliveries. The overall detection rate was 28.4% and the false positive diagnoses were very few. LÄS MER
20. Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a balloon catheter : experimental and clinical evaluation of a new form of treatment for menorrhagia
Sammanfattning : Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a silicone balloon catheter is a new form of treatment for menorrhagia aimed at reducing menstrual blood loss. The purpose of the present work was to study, experimentally, the thermal effects on and the thermal conductivity of uterine tissue, to obtain a basis for the estimation of optimal treatment conditions by means of numerical analyses using a computer simulation model, to elucidate possible problems which may arise during the procedure, to evaluate how the patients tolerated this treatment and to judge which patients were suitable for this form of treatment and, finally, to study the uterine cavity after treatment and the long-term results of treatment.
