  1. 6. Epidemiological studies of severe infections in COPD

    Författare :Malin Inghammar; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Invasive Pneumococcal Disease; Bacteraemia; Tuberculosis; Epidemiology; COPD;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that patients with COPD have an increased risk of lower respiratory tract infections, but less is known about the association with other infections. The aim of this thesis was to explore epidemiological aspects of severe infections in COPD, using public registries in Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Respiratory Tract Infections: Aspects of Aetiology, Virulence, and Communicable Disease Control

    Författare :Jonas Ahl; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Streptococcus pneumoniae; day care center; communicable disease control intervention; eradication therapy; invasive pneumococcal disease; serotype 3; aetiology; ventilator-associated pneumonia;

    Sammanfattning : The paediatric nasopharyngeal flora is regarded as the largest reservoir for Streptococcus pneumoniae, and the carrier state is always antecedent to infection and a prerequisite for dispersion of these bacteria. Pneumococci are the predominant aetiology of bacterial respiratory tract infections and a major cause of morbidity and mortality, in the most severe cases due to invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD; mainly sepsis and meningitis). 3. 8. Respiratory tract infections in primary care - aspects of diagnosis and treatment

    Författare :Karin Rystedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Group A streptococci; Penicillin V; Phenoxymethylpenicillin; Rapid antigen detection test; Antimicrobial resistance; Faecal microbiota; C-reactive protein; Influenza-like illness; Influenza A; Primary care;

    Sammanfattning : Background Primary health care is accountable for most of the antibiotic prescriptions in humans. In Sweden, most of these antibiotics are used for respiratory tract infections, and pharyngotonsillitis (acute sore throat) is the single respiratory tract infection that leads to most antibiotic prescriptions. 4. 9. Aspects of infection and leukemia in Rwanda

    Författare :Belson Rugwizangoga; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; interferon-λ; respiratory infection; nucleotide polymorphism; acute leukemia; Rwanda; Epstein-Barr virus; malaria;

    Sammanfattning : A first part of this thesis addressed the potential impact of variants of genes encoding interferon-λ4, which is a cytokine that participates in protection against pathogens at epithelial surfaces, for the resolution of upper respiratory tract infections in Rwandan children. In a study of 480 subjects (≤5 years old), where follow-up samples were available from 161 subjects, it was observed that IFNL4 genotypes were associated with clearance of RNA viruses from upper airways. 5. 10. Survival strategies of the human respiratory tract pathogen Haemophilus influenzae

    Författare :Teresia Hallström; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; bacteriology; virology; Haemophilus influenzae; IgD-binding; protein structure of Hsf; Microbiology; The complement system; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Haemophilus influenzae is an important respiratory tract pathogen responsible for a variety of infections in humans. Encapsulated H. influenzae belongs to one of six serotypes (a-f), of which type b is the most virulent one causing serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases (e.g. LÄS MER
