16. Angular dynamics of small particles in fluids
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the angular motion of small particles suspended in fluid flows. A small particle experiences a hydrodynamic torque due to the local fluid velocity, and this torque leads to rotational motion. When inertial effects are negligible the torque on an ellipsoidal particle is given by Jeffery's theory [Jeffery, G. B. LÄS MER
17. Numerical Modelling of Some Engineering Heat Transfer Problems
Sammanfattning : Engineering heat transfer problems are very often of a complex nature and most often no analytical solutions exist. One way to create solutions to such problems is to apply numerical methods. This study concerns heat transfer problems with coupled conduction, convection and thermal radiation. LÄS MER
18. A Novel Immersed-Boundary Method for Multiple Moving and Interacting Bodies
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development, implementation and validation of an implicit, second order accurate, finite-volume and instationary immersed-boundary method for simulating the detailed flow around multiple arbitrary moving and interacting bodies. The potential for flows including moving bodies or boundaries, such as multiphase flows still has to be fully realized. LÄS MER
19. Explicit algebraic turbulence modelling in buoyancy-affected shear flows
Sammanfattning : Turbulent flows affected by buoyancy forces occur in a large amount of applica-tions, from heat transfer in industrial settings to the effects of stratification inEarth’s atmosphere. The two-way coupling between the Reynolds stresses andthe turbulent heat flux present in these flows poses a challenge in the searchfor an appropriate turbulence model. LÄS MER
20. Eulerian Numerical Study of the Sedimentation of Fibre Suspensions
Sammanfattning : Sedimenting suspensions exist in a varity of natural phenomena and industrial applications. It is already observed in experiments that the dilute fibre suspensions experience a hydrodynamics instability under gravity at low Reynolds numbers. Initially well-mixed suspensions become inhomogeneous and anisotropic due to this instability. LÄS MER
