  1. 21. Synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the mouse striatum

    Författare :Sietske Schotanus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The striatum is the major input nucleus of the basal ganglia and can be subdivided into a dorsal part and a ventral part that is also named nucleus accumbens (NAc). The dorsal part is involved in motor control and habit learning whereas the ventral part is mostly associated with rewardmotivated behaviors. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Re-evaluation of the hypothesis that LTP has two temporal phases and that the late phase is protein synthesis-dependent

    Författare :Abdul-Karim Abbas; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term potentiation (LTP) is an activity-dependent increase in synaptic efficacy that is most studied in the hippocampus and that is considered a cellular substrate for learning and memory. Accepting the belief that the durability (persistence in time) of LTP is analogical to long-standing store of hippocampus-dependent memories warrants the necessity for understanding the mechanisms underlying LTP stabilization. 3. 23. Effects of acute alcohol exposure on glutamate neurotransmission in adolescents and adults : a preclinical study

    Författare :Devesh Mishra; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The age at which an individual first uses alcohol is a powerful predictor of alcohol dependence later in life. Brain development and maturation continues during adolescence until adulthood in humans. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Synaptic elimination and the complement system in Alzhaimer's disease

    Författare :Jonny Daborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Synapse; Alzheimer s disease; Genetics; CSF; Complement; RAGE;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanisms behind Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are largely unknown. The disease is to a large extent hereditary, and the best pathophysiological correlate to the severity of the symptoms is loss of synapses. LÄS MER

  5. 25. alpha-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone in neurodegenerative processes

    Författare :Åsa Forslin Aronsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :alpha-MSH; excitotoxicity; gliosis; ischemia; memory; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : The fact that inflammatory processes accompany the neuronal cell death in most neurodegenerative disorders, has in recent years inspired to studies on the role of inflammation in the brain and the possibility to prevent or stop the degenerative processes by treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs. Neurodegenerative disorders are often accompanied by a progressive loss of memory, and substances that can improve memory functions are of great interest. LÄS MER
