21. The Baltic Sea marine system - human impact and natural variations
Sammanfattning : The environmental state of the Baltic Sea system is influenced by both natural and anthropogenic factors. Water exchange with the adjacent ocean and within the system depend on large-scale atmospheric circulation and properties of the straits separating the different sub-basins. LÄS MER
22. Benthic fluxes of biogenic elements in the Baltic Sea : Influence of oxygen and macrofauna
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates how benthic fluxes of phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), and silicon (Si) change upon oxygenation of anoxic soft bottoms in the brackish, eutrophicated Baltic Sea. Direct measurements in situ by benthic landers demonstrated that fluxes of dissolved inorganic P (DIP) from anoxic bottom sediments in the Eastern Gotland Basin are higher than previously thought (Paper I). 23. Influence of resuspension on sediment-water solute exchange and particle transport in marine environments
Sammanfattning : Marine sediments contain a large pool of nutrients, which if released would contribute to increased eutrophication, in spite of decreased nutrient loads from land and atmosphere. Resuspension is a process, which might influence the release of nutrients from the sediment to the overlying water. LÄS MER
24. Impact of Cultivation Parameters on Cell Physiology of Limosilactobacillus reuteri
Sammanfattning : Optimisation of cultivation conditions in the industrial production of probiotics is crucial to reach a high-quality product with high probiotic functionality. The production process includes a fermentation step to produce biomass, accompanied by centrifugation to concentrate the cells. LÄS MER
25. Chemical-Looping Combustion with Natural Gas Using NiO-Based Oxygen Carriers
Sammanfattning : CO2 capture and storage has been proposed as an alternative to mitigate global warming. Chemical-looping combustion is an unmixed combustion concept where fuel and combustion air are kept separate by means of an oxygen carrier and the CO2 capture is inherently achieved. LÄS MER
