  1. 31. Autocrine/paracrine interactions moendocrine pancreasdulating hormone release in the endocrine pancreas

    Författare :Over Cabrera; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Human islet transplantation is emerging as an alternative to pancreas transplantation or insulin therapy in the treatment of type I diabetes. It has been possible to achieve euglycemia by transplanting isolated human islets in patients who suffer from the long term side effects of diabetes and insulin therapy. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Effects of ethanol on NMDA receptor-mediated functions in primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells

    Författare :Aleta Cebere; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Glutamate; NR2A and NR2B subunits; NMDA ethanol; homoquinolinic acid; glycine; spermidine; NMDA receptor antagonists; Ca 21; neurotoxicity; neuroprotection; AP-1; RT-PCR; Western blot; cerebellar granule cells;

    Sammanfattning : Primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells were used to investigate the effects of acute and chronic exposure of ethanol on NMDA receptor functions and to examine the possible sites of interaction between ethanol and the NMDA receptor. Activation of NMDA receptors induced elevation of free cytoplasmic Ca2+, Ca2+ influx, activation of protein kinase C and neurotoxicity. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Modulation of pain by immune factors : a study on interferon-g and its receptor in nociceptive transmission

    Författare :Kristina S Vikman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cytokines; interferon-gamma; dorsal horn; hypersensitivity; nociceptive transmission; pain; GluR1; AMPA receptor; disinhibition; spontaneous activity; primary cell culture; two-compartment model; spinal cord.;

    Sammanfattning : Immune cytokines have been implicated as important neuromodulators, contributing to neuronal plasticity both in the adult and developing nervous system. In addition, they have been assigned a potential role in the generation of pathological pain, which may occur as a severe symptom following disease states in the nervous system. LÄS MER
