11. Plasmonic Nanostructures for Optical Absorption Engineering and Hydrogen Sensing
Sammanfattning : Nanoplasmonics concerns the interactions between light and metal nanoparticles. In this thesis nanoplasmonics is used in two different ways: i) to control and enhance light absorption, and ii) for optical hydrogen sensing. LÄS MER
12. Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy of Metal Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : Noble metal structures with size in the sub 100 nm range exhibit extraordinary optical properties due to collective oscillations of conduction electrons, the surface plasmon resonances (SPR). The most remarkable feature of these structures is the ability to redistribute electromagnetic radiation and concentrate strong fields near the surface. LÄS MER
13. Kinetic Measurements Using Nanoplasmonic Sensing
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the nanoplasmonic sensing technique was used to study kinetics of (i) the oxidation of Al nanoparticles in air and water and (ii) the solid-liquid phase transition in Sn nanoparticles. The nanoplasmonic sensing technique detects changes of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in metal nanoparticles. LÄS MER
14. Optical properties of silver nanostructures prepared by electron beam lithography
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron beam lithography (EBL) has been used to fabricate substrates for studies of nanoparticle optics, in particular for the investigation of noble metal nanoparticles and their tunable optical properties. The strong interaction of metal nanoparticles with light has its origin in the resonant excitation of collective oscillations of conduction electrons, so called localized surface plasmons (LSP). 15. Nanoparticle plasmon influence on the charge carrier generation in solar cells
Sammanfattning : Global warming is a potential threat to life on earth and to human society. It is by much evidence linked to the extensive use of fossil fuels in our present energy system. Replacing the fossil fuels by alternative sources of energy poses a tremendous challenge for mankind, but is not at all undoable. LÄS MER
