  1. 1. Limonene Hydroperoxides in Allergic Contact Dermatitis. Radical Formation, Sensitizing Capacity and Immunogenic Complex Formation

    Författare :Staffan Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; allergic contact dermatitis; contact allergy; immunogenic complex; limonene hydroperoxides; local lymph node assay; patch testing; radicals; sensitizing capacity; skin;

    Sammanfattning : Contact allergy to fragrance compounds is an increasing problem in the western countries today. R-Limonene is one of the most common fragrance compounds; it is used in hygiene products and cosmetics as well as in industrial products such as hand cleansers and degreasers. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clinical and experimental studies on oxidized fragrance terpenes as contact allergens

    Författare :Johanna Bråred Christensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :autoxidation; contact allergy; limonene; linalool; colophonium; limonene-1-hydroperoxide; limonene-2-hydroperoxide; 15-hydroperoxyabietic acid; 15-HPA; terpenes; local lymph node assay; LLNA; Freunds complete adjuvant test; FCAT; patch testing; laser Doppler imaging; skin irritation; visual reading;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis aims to improve the possibilities for diagnosing contact allergy to oxidized limonene and linalool and to, in patients, study contact allergy from structurally closely related hydroperoxides with regard to their specificity, potency and cross-reactivity. The fragrance terpenes limonene (from citrus oil) and linalool (from lavender oil) are widely used in household and industrial products. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Epoxides as Contact Allergens - Formation, Sensitising Potency and Structure-Activity Relationships

    Författare :Ida Belogorcev Niklasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Allergic contact dermatitis; Autoxidation; Bioactivation; Cinnamic alcohol; Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A DGEBA ; Epoxide; Epoxy resin; Local lymph node assay; Polymerisation; Peptide reactivity; Prehapten; Prohapten; Sensitisation; Skin; Structure-Activity Relationship; Thermogravimetric Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Chemicals in our environment with which we have repeated skin contact can cause skin sensitisation (contact allergy). To trigger an immune response a compound (hapten) must be able to penetrate the skin, where it needs to be reactive enough to bind to proteins and form immunogenic complexes that are recognised as foreign. 4. 4. Predictive testing for contact allergy : comparison of some guinea pig and mouse protocols including dose-response designs

    Författare :Helen Wahlkvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :contact allergens; contact allergy; cumulative contact enhancement test; dose-response; evaluation; Freund s complete adjuvant test; guinea pig maximization test; local lymph node assay; mouse ear swelling test; patch test; predictive testing; statistical analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Contact allergy (delayed hypersensitivity) may develop as a result of skin exposure to contact allergens (haptens) and can lead to allergic contact dermatitis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate some predictive animal test methods for contact allergens. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mechanisms and modulation of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis as basis for treatment of multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Ling-Yun Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Its etiology is unknown and there exists no cure. LÄS MER
