11. Evidence for "liveness" in face biometrics
Sammanfattning : Aliveness or "liveness" detection is a novel but crucial topic in biometrics. In this study we will investigate it for face biometrics. The problem is given by the real-time requirements of such a system to be able to avert advanced spoofing attempts, e.g. LÄS MER
12. Multi-Scale Surface Water-Groundwater Interaction : Implications for GroundwaterDischarge Patterns
Sammanfattning : Rivers and aquifers are continuously exchanging water, driven by processes that occur on various temporal and spatial scales, ranging from small streambed features to large geological structures. The interaction between these two components occurs in permeable sediments below the stream channel, called the hyporheic zone. LÄS MER
13. Small-Scale Fisheries Governance : Broadening Perspectives on Markets, Relationships and Benefits in Seafood Trade
Sammanfattning : This licentiate adresses the relative ambiguity surounding benefit flows from small-scale fisheries seafood trade with a specific focus on how they may be impacted by market and social stuctures. Small-scale fishery governenace has previously taken a narrowly approach to sustainability. LÄS MER
14. Grain Size and Solid Solution Strengthening in Metals
Sammanfattning : The understanding of the strengthening mechanisms is crucialboth in the development of new materials with improvedmechanical properties and in the development of better materialmodels in the simulation of industrial processes. The aim ofthis work has been to study different strengthening mechanismsfrom a fundamental point of view that enables the developmentof a general model for the flow stress. LÄS MER
15. Conifer Evolution, from Demography and Local Adaptation to Evolutionary Rates : Examples from the Picea genus
Sammanfattning : Evolutionary process can be inferred at three different levels: the species level, the population level and the molecular level. In this thesis, I applied approaches at these three levels and aimed to get a comprehensive picture of conifer evolution, from speciation and demography to geographic variation and local adaptation, and then to the molecular evolution of proteins and small regulatory RNAs.
