6. Local anaesthesia in term- and preterm infants
Sammanfattning : Background: Local anaesthesia is known to be a safe and effective method for postoperative pain manage- ment in adults and children. This convenient method is however rarely used in term and preterm infants, despite its obvious benefits. This is due to lack of research and experience in the area. LÄS MER
7. Microextraction by packed sorbent of drugs and peptides in biological fluids
Sammanfattning : Sample preparation as the first step in an analytical procedure has an important role, particularly in bioanalysis, because of the complexity of biological samples (blood plasma and urine). Biological matrix such as plasma and blood contains proteins, organic and inorganic salts, acids, bases and various organic compounds with similar chemistry to the analytes of interest. LÄS MER
8. On paediatric regional anaesthesia : the use of paravertebral blockade, aspects on plasma protein binding, and systemic toxicity of local anaesthetics
Sammanfattning : Paediatric regional anaesthesia has gained widespread popularity during recent years because of an excellent potential for intra- and postoperative pain relief and reduction of the surgically induced stress response. The aim of the present thesis was to adapt and develop the technique of paravertebral blockade (PVB) for the safe use in paediatric patients and also to investigate aspects on plasma protein binding and toxicity of local anaesthetic drugs which might be of importance in the special settings of paediatric anaesthesia. 9. Monolithic separation media synthesized in capillaries and their applications for molecularly imprinted networks
Sammanfattning : The thesis describes the synthesis of chromatographic media using several different approaches, their characterizations and applications in liquid chromatography. The steps to achieve a separation column for a specific analyte are presented. The main focus of the study was the design of novel molecularly imprinted polymers. LÄS MER
10. Molecular mechanisms of local anaesthetic action on voltage-gated ion channels
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I try to clarify some molecular mechanisms of local anaesthetic action on ion channels. The traditional view is that local anaesthetics eliminate action potentials by a direct block of Na channels. Other mechanisms, however, have been suggested. LÄS MER
