This thesis examines the ways in which the writings of Henry Parland, James Joyce and Virginia Woolf works to foreground things and decenter humans. While the exploration of human inner life is a well established theme within Modernist literature, the period’s fascination with the material and non-human remains underexplored. LÄS MER

This thesis examines how cultural encounters and asymmetrical power relationships are depicted in three works by Sara Lidman (1923–2004): Hjortronlandet (“Cloudberry Land”) from 1955, Med fem diamanter (“With Five Diamonds”) from 1964 and Samtal i Hanoi (“Conversations in Hanoi”) from 1966. They are set in three very different colonial contexts, northern Sweden in the early 20th century, Kenya in the early 1960’s and Vietnam in 1965, and take place in a time of transition when an agricultural, local way of life is challenged by a Eurocentric understanding of modernity and knowledge. Sammanfattning :
This thesis shows that the urban experience is a fundamental part of the development of the Swedish young adult novel by analysing city representations in Swedish young adult literature from 1890 to 2010. By suggestion that there is a strong bond between the notion of the urban and that of adolescence this study examines continuity and change in representations of coming-of-age, focusing especially on intersections between age, gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality. In international research, the term prose poem generally describes a particular genre, created by Louis Bertrand and Charles Baudelaire.
