  1. 16. Computer Simulations of Simple Liquids with Tetrahedral Local Order : the Supercooled Liquid, Solids and Phase Transitions

    Författare :Måns Elenius; Mikhail Dzugutov; Jonathan Doye; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Simple liquids; glasses; liquid-glass transition; supercooled liquids; tetrahedral liquids; phase transitions; quasicrystals; molecular dynamics; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Liquid physics; Vätskefysik; numerisk analys; Numerical Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of complex condensed matter systems is an area of intense study. In this thesis, some properties of simple liquids with strong preference for tetrahedral local ordering are explored. These liquids are amenable to supercooling, and give complex crystalline structures on eventual crystallisation. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs

    Författare :Annika Ridell; Martin Malmsten; Sven Engström; David Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polymer; surfactant; phase diagram; x-ray diffraction; fluorescence spectroscopy; calorimetry; PEG; cellulose ether; viscometry; cubic phase; liquid crystals; drugs; solid dispersion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Fysikalisk och oorganisk farmaceutisk kemi; Physical and Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases. 3. 18. Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation in Micellar Solution and Lyotropic Liquid Crystals. Tools and Applications

    Författare :Ruslan Sitnikov; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NMR; NMR relaxation dispersion; NMR spectrometer; low NMR frequencies; NMR duplexer; NMR preamplifier; NMR lock; surfactant systems; micellar solutions; lyotropic liquid crystals; cubic mesophase;

    Sammanfattning : Structurally, this Thesis is divided into two parts thatdescribe (i) the hardware development for NMR relaxationstudies and (ii) its applications for studies of the surfactantsystems.The developed hardware solutions allow to expand thefrequency range covered by conventional NMR spectrometers tomake NMR experiments feasible at resonance frequencies down to100 kHz. 4. 19. Multi-Level Lossless Phase Modulation in Liquid Crystals for High-Speed Spatial Light Modulators

    Författare :David Engström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase measurements; polarization; phase modulation; beam steering; Spatial light modulators; diffractive optics; ferroelectric liquid crystals;

    Sammanfattning : The spatial light modulator (SLM) is a compact device that enables highly precise control of light propagation with low drive voltages and no moving parts. By imposing a certain phase modulation onto the incident lightwave, functions such as multi-beam steering, beam shaping, and air turbulence corrections can be achieved in realtime. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Study of the flow-induced structure and anisotropy in lyotropic liquid crystals for hierarchical composites

    Författare :Adrian Rodriguez Palomo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Self-assembly; Lyotropic liquid crystals; SAXS; Hierarchical materials.; 3D printing; Rheology; Microfluidics; Birefringence microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Controlling the micro and nanostructure of materials is highly beneficial in order to tailor their physical properties. Extrusion-based 3D printing is a promising tool to produce hierarchical structures with controlled architecture. LÄS MER
