  1. 11. Lipid storage and secretion. Studies on VLDL assembly and foam cell formation

    Författare :Björn Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ADP-ribosylation factor 1; very low density lipoprotein; lipid droplet; adipocyte differentiation-related protein; hypoxia; foam cell;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with formation of two factors of upmost importance for the development of atherosclerosis: the triglyceride rich very low density lipoproteins 1 (VLDL1) and the lipid loaded macrophages ("foam cells"- characteristic features of the atherosclerotic lesion). Both these processes depend on the cellular accumulation of lipids. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Protein kinase STK25 is a regulator of hepatic lipid partitioning and whole body metabolism

    Författare :Manoj Amrutkar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NAFLD; NASH; Liver lipid metabolism; Type 2 diabetes; STK25;

    Sammanfattning : In past decade, type 2 diabetes (T2D) and associated metabolic complications have become a major global threat for human health with epidemic increase in incidence. Currently available treatments for T2D have several limitations and side effects making it difficult safely reach adequate metabolic control. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Development of Nonlinear Microscopy for Studies of Metabolism and Tissue Engineering

    Författare :Madeleine Åkeson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; imaging; bacterial cellulose; nonlinear microscopy; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast; C. elegans; Microscopy; lipid storage;

    Sammanfattning : Nonlinear microscopy techniques provide abilities for noninvasive and selective imaging of structural and chemical properties of biological systems. These techniques include coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy with the ability to selectively image molecular vibrations, second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy which selectively images fiber structures, and third harmonic generation (THG) microscopy which is sensitive to interfaces between materials with different optical properties. 4. 14. Development of fluorescent probes based on the benzothiadiazole scaffold

    Författare :Susanne Doloczki; Christine Dyrager; Eszter Borbas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Fluorescent probes are valuable imaging tools for studying biological processes on a cellular level. While antibody-based fluorescence imaging typically requires fixation of cells, small-molecule fluorophores have the advantage that they can often be used for live-cell imaging. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Characterisation of autophagy pathways in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Peter Saliba Gustafsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease of large to intermediate-sized arteries, characterised by retention of modified low-density lipoprotein within the vessel wall; this evokes an inflammatory response. Low-density lipoprotein carries lipids such as fatty acids, triglycerides and cholesterol, from the liver to peripheral tissues. LÄS MER
