1. α-synuclein interactions with lipid membranes
Sammanfattning : α-synuclein is an intrinsically disordered protein implicated in synaptic vesicle trafficking at the synapse. Accumulation of α-synuclein in the form of amyloid deposits coincides with the loss of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinsons disease. LÄS MER
2. Interfacial Properties of Lipid Liquid Crystalline Nanoparticles
Sammanfattning : Lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles are studied for their potential as biocompatible carriers for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic applications. Their potential as delivery vehicles is due to their nanometer size, their controllable structure and physical properties and their large carrying capacity of a wide range of molecules. LÄS MER
3. Interorganellar connectivity : From protein to lipid homeostasis
Sammanfattning : Interorganellar connectivity is fundamental for the maintenance of organellar and cellular functionality and viability. This is achieved and maintained by a complex network of signaling cascades, vesicle trafficking between organelles as well as by establishment of direct physical contact at membrane contact sites (MCS). 4. DNA strand exchange and hydrophobic interactions between biomolecules
Sammanfattning : The role of hydrophobic interactions in DNA strand exchange has been studied using fluorescence-labeled DNA oligomers in a FRET assay. Strand exchange was found to be accelerated in the presence of polyethylene glycol, which provides a crowded and hydrophobic environment possibly mimicking that of the catalytically active recombinase-DNA complexes. 5. Elucidating the molecular basis of Na+/H+ exchange
Sammanfattning : Solute carrier (SLC) transporters are membrane transport proteins, which catalyse the movement of nutrients, ions, and drugs across cell membranes. Here, I will present our contribution to understanding the mechanism of the sodium/proton exchangers (NHE), belonging to the SLC9 family of membrane transporters. LÄS MER
