1. Forest-stream linkages : Experimental studies of foraging and growth of brown trout (Salmo trutta L)
Sammanfattning : Riparian vegetation along streams and rivers affects the aquatic community in numerous ways and often operates as a link for energy flux between forest and streams. The studies presented in this licentiate thesis focus on light and terrestrial invertebrates, two factors influenced by riparian zone structure, which potentially affect stream ecosystems and thus also brown trout (Salmo trutta). 2. Forest – stream linkages : Brown trout (Salmo trutta) responses to woody debris, terrestrial invertebrates and light
Sammanfattning : Forests surrounding streams affect aquatic communities in numerous ways, contributing to energy fluxes between terrestrial and lotic ecosystems. The five papers in this thesis focus on woody debris, terrestrial invertebrates and light, three factors influenced by riparian zone structure, potentially affecting streams and brown trout (Salmo trutta). 3. Studies towards a method for incorporation of 3'-deoxy-3'-C-methylenephosphonate linkages into oligonucleotides
Sammanfattning : Synthetic strategies towards 3’-deoxy-3’-C-methylenephosphinate building blocks were explored. The key transformations involved stereoselective hydroboration of 1-[2-O-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl-5-O-(4-methoxytrityl)-3-deoxy-3-C-methylene- ß -D-erythro-pentofuranosyl]uracil to give the corresponding 3’-deoxy-3’-C- hydroxymethyl derivative with ribo-configuration, as well as the further conversion into a precursor with a suitable leaving group, e. 4. Essays on Macro-Financial Linkages
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is a collection of four papers on the analysis of the term structure of interest rates with a focus at the intersection of macroeconomics and finance. "Risk in Macroeconomic Fundamentals and Bond Return Predictability" documents that factors related to risks underlying the macroeconomy such as expectations, uncertainty and downside (upside) macroeconomic risks are able to explain variation in bond risk premia. 5. Zooplankton growth and trophic linkages : Implications for fish feeding conditions in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : The aim of this Thesis was to improve our understanding and assessment of feeding conditions for zooplanktivorous fish in the Baltic Sea.We investigated (papers I, II) the usefulness of biochemical proxies for assessments of growth and metabolic rates in the dominant Baltic copepod Acartia bifilosa.
