Sammanfattning :
Automatic translation has seen tremendous progress in recent years, mainly thanks to statistical methods applied to large parallel corpora. Transductions represent a principled approach to modeling translation, but existing transduction classes are either not expressive enough to capture structural regularities between natural languages or too complex to support efficient statistical induction on a large scale. Sammanfattning :
Linear matrix equations and nonlinear eigenvalue problems (NEP) appear in a wide variety of applications in science and engineering. Important special cases of the former are the Lyapunov equation, the Sylvester equation, and their respective generalizations. These appear, e.g. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning :
Ill-posed sets of linear equations typically arise when discretizing certain types of integral transforms. A well known example is image reconstruction, which can be modeled using the Radon transform. After expanding the solution into a finite series of basis functions a large, sparse and ill-conditioned linear system occurs. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning :
In this thesis, stable and efficient hybrid methods which combine high order finite difference methods and unstructured finite volume methods for time-dependent initial boundary value problems have been developed. The hybrid methods make it possible to combine the efficiency of the finite difference method and the flexibility of the finite volume method. LÄS MER
