  1. 11. Phenotypic Processes Triggered by Biological Invasions

    Författare :Philipp E Hirsch; Richard Svanbäck; Skúli Skúlason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Resource polymorphism; phenotypic plasticity; phenotypic divergence; anti-predator responses; Perca fluviatilis; Rutilus rutilus; Dreissena polymorpha; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals within a single population can vary widely in their phenotype e.g. in their body shape. These differences are an important source of biodiversity and they can precede evolutionary divergence within a population. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The origin and fate of sediment organic carbon in tropical reservoirs

    Författare :Anastasija Isidorova; Sebastian Sobek; Rafael Marcé; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon burial; tropical reservoirs; sediment; carbon cycle; limnology; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Recently, the construction of reservoirs has boomed, particularly in the tropics, but the impact of reservoirs on the global carbon cycle is not evident. Reservoirs accumulate sediments that simultaneously bury organic carbon (OC) and thus act as a C sink, and also produce methane (CH4) and thus emit a strong greenhouse gas. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Microbial adaptations and controlling mechanisms of surface-associated microhabitat heterogeneity in aquatic systems

    Författare :Jan Torsten Jeske; Stefan Bertilsson; Annelie Wendeberg; Andreas Schramm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial habitat heterogeneity; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Habitat heterogeneity is a driving factor for speciation and ecosystem functioning and is well studied in macro-ecology. Yet our understanding of microbial adaptations, and governing processes is incomplete. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Molecular-level dissolved organic matter dynamics in lakes : Constraints on reactivity and persistence

    Författare :Anne Marie Kellerman; Lars J. Tranvik; Dolly N. Kothawala; Thorsten Dittmar; Robert G. M. Spencer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :dissolved organic matter; DOM; dissolved organic carbon; organic matter characterization; fluorescence; PARAFAC; molecular weight; mass spectrometry; FT-ICR-MS; boreal lakes; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is a central component of the global carbon cycle. Thus, small changes to the amount of DOM imported, processed and produced within lakes can have a large effect on regional carbon budgets. In addition to being a vital energy source at the base of the aquatic food web, DOM is physico-chemically reactive. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Gas Exchange over Aquatic Interfaces and its Importance for Greenhouse Gas Emission

    Författare :Jovana Kokic; Sebastian Sobek; Erik Sahlée; Marcus B. Wallin; Anne Ojala; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas exchange; lake; stream; lake sediment; headwaters; carbon dioxide; methane; greenhouse gas emission; carbon; turbulence; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Aquatic ecosystems play a substantial role in global cycling of carbon (C), despite covering only about 4% of the earth surface. They emit large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHG) to the atmosphere, comparable to the amount of C stored annually in terrestrial ecosystems. In addition, C can be buried in lake sediments. LÄS MER
