6. Thermo-mechanical Assessment of Reactor Pressure Vessels of Light Water Reactors During Severe Accidents
Sammanfattning : The reactor pressure vessel (RPV) is one of the crucial safety barriers designed to isolate the reactor core, safeguarding against potential radioactive releases into the environment during a severe accident. The assessment of RPV behaviour and its failure is necessary to predict the characteristics of melt release into the reactor pit and succeeding ex-vessel accident progression. LÄS MER
7. Investigation of the use of thorium in LWRs for improving reactor core performance
Sammanfattning : Thorium is a fertile material and most of the past research has focused on breeding thorium into fissile material to achieve a more sustainable use of nuclear power. However, the focus in this report is on using thorium to improve reactor core performance. LÄS MER
8. Three-dimensional structured carbon foam : synthesis and applications
Sammanfattning : Recently, due to the unique properties and structures such as large geometric surface area, electrical conductivity and light weight, 3D structured carbon materials have been attracting extensive attention from scientists. Moreover, the materials, which can provide well-defined pathways for reactants to easily access active sites, are extremely useful for energy conversion as well as environmental and catalysis applications. 9. Effective Models for Simulation of Thermal Stratification and Mixing Induced by Steam Injection into a Large Pool of Water
Sammanfattning : Steam venting and condensation in a large pool of water creates both a source of heat and a source of momentum. Complex interplay between these two sources leads to either thermal stratification or mixing. LÄS MER
10. High Performance Fuels for Water-Cooled Reactor Systems
Sammanfattning : Investigation of nitride fuels and their properties has, for decades, been propelled on the basis of their desirable high metal densities and high thermal conductivities, both of which oer intrinsic advantages to performance, economy, and safety in fast and light water reactor systems. In this time several key obstacles have been identied as impeding the implementation of these fuels for commercial applications; namely chemical interactions with air and steam, the noted diculty in sintering of the material, and the high costs associated with the enrichment of 15N.
