  1. 16. Transition metal-catalyzed reduction of carbonyl compounds : Fe, Ru and Rh complexes as powerful hydride mediators

    Författare :Elina Buitrago; Hans Adolfsson; Robert Morris; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymmetric catalysis; amino acid; N-heterocyclic carbene; iron; ruthenium; rhodium; mechanistic investigation; kinetic study; asymmetric transfer hydrogenation; hydrosilylation; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : A detailed mechanistic investigation of the previously reported ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of aromatic ketones was performed. It was found that the addition of alkali metals has a large influence on both the reaction rate and the selectivity, and that the rate of the reaction was substantially increased when THF was used as a co-solvent. 2. 17. Transition Metal-Free O-, N- and S-Arylations with Diaryliodonium Salts

    Författare :Gabriella Kervefors; Berit Olofsson; Boris Nachtsheim; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amines; hypervalent iodine; electrophilic arylation; methodology development; total synthesis; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the development of metal-free arylation procedures using diaryliodonium salts, a non-toxic and versatile electrophilic arylating reagent, with applications to synthesize biologically relevant targets.The first part describes a transition metal-free formal synthesis of phenoxazine with an O-functionalization of a certain phenol as a key step. 3. 18. Nuclear receptor functions in the central nervous system : clues from knockout mice

    Författare :Sandra Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Estrogen receptor; liver X receptor; 5alpha-androstane-3beta; 17beta-diol; brain development; neuronal degeneration; spinal cord; motor neuron.;

    Sammanfattning : The nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily is the largest known family of transcription factors in eukaryotes. In the 1980 s when the size of the NR family and the scope of the functions of its members were being discovered, tissue distribution studies revealed that the mRNAs of many of these receptors were expressed in the central nervous system. 4. 19. Palladium-Catalysed Carbon–Carbon Coupling Reactions : Focusing on Microwave Heating, Low Catalyst Concentrations, Aqueous Conditions, Regioselectivity and Medicinal Chemistry Applications

    Författare :Riina K Arvela; Mats Larhed; Anders Hallberg; Michael G Organ; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Suzuki coupling; Heck reaction; palladium; microwave heating; water; vinyl ethregioselective; HIV-1 integrase inhibitor; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : It is widely accepted that palladium is one of the most useful catalysts in organic chemistry, and many palladium(0)-catalysed carbon–carbon bond-forming reactions have been developed over the years. In addition, the ever-growing need for more environmentally benign processes in the chemical industry has driven scientists to look for greener options while developing new methodologies for organic synthesis. 5. 20. Novel electrode and photoelectrode materials for hydrogen production based on molecular catalysts

    Författare :Andrew J. Bagnall; Leif Hammarström; Vincent Artero; Sascha Ott; Alexander Cowan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrochemical mechanism; hydrogen; artificial photosynthesis; molecular catalyst; hydrogen evolution; cobalt; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The PhD project focussed on the application of a cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic complex, in the literature commonly referred to as [Co(CR)Cl2]+ as a molecular catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This was within the broader scope of the EU MSCA H2020 ITN ‘eSCALED’ project, which primarily aimed to create artificial leaf devices for the storage of solar energy in chemical fuels and, as part of this, sought the development of novel bio-inspired and scalable materials.
